If you had to run this housing, how would you do it?
Hey guys new here, I'm hopefully about to rebuild this engine I bought in overall fair condition. I know this rotor housing is better used as a display item I just want to know if I had to run this housing on a rebuild what would I have to do to make the engine last for enough time for me to buy a new, better condition engine and also how long would this last. I've heard of people running housings in worse condition than this one and lasting for miles and miles. Just wanted to get some more opinions on this.
That's in better shape than most rotor housings I have seen, and 99.9% of the 12A rotor housings in existence.
You could put it in your engine and it will last until something else fails.... then it will last through the next rebuild too.
The important thing to look at is the area around the spark plugs. If there is heavy cracking there or the surface is obviously not flat, then I'd send them out to be "resurfaced", but other than that, run 'em.
What you need to do is carefully observe the apex seal to slot clearance. It must be no more than .0025", maybe .003" if you are not expecting much from the engine. With chattering like that I bet it is .005" or more measured with the old seals (the seals seem to wear more than the rotors, unless you have 3mm seals, those ones beat the rotor slots apart and are generally no good) Add moe oil to the fuel too.
This doesn't make any sense. You are going to put an engine together temporarily while you save up for a new housing? You are going to cost yourself double and if you don't have enough money for a housing, you can't afford to waste money.
Tearing the engine back down to put a new housing in after saving for it just makes no sense. You will have to replace all fluids and some of the gaskets and seals, and time to pull your engine apart and rebuild. That's a huge waste.

I agree. I'm just trying to get an opinion on the housing. This is theoretical I don't have the money to rebuild an engine yet and I'm trying to see what I can reuse or not. The more and more I hear getting a new used housing would be playing it safe and they're not too terribly expensive.
