Does this rotor housing need replacing?

Cracked open my engine i bought thinking it was in perfect condition, and i found these little pits, i'm wondering if this is still usable, the pits in the picture is the only pits on the housing. Another question i have is why is there usually wear on the corners of the housings, almost every used housing i have seen shows more wear around the edges. What causes this? Take a look and tell me what you think.

I personally wouldn't use that housing. Those pits could cause premature wear on the apex seals, and thats not a good thing.

It'd run,but for how long would be questionable.
I wouldnt use it for anything performance or endurance related...

For a quick,"get her running, for now" solution, yea it'd work....

yes but if it comes out of a 12A housing keep it in a 12A housing if it came out of 84-85 GSL-SE housing get one of those housings bc S4 S5 housings where different than the SE housings

It's the apex seals that contact with the housing, side seals contact the irons. If the rotor is making contact with either, that is a bad thing.

The damage on the housing you posted is in the compression area, if it was in the exhaust phase, you might get by with. Check the bearing in that rotor and the e-shaft for clearance, might be a little out of spec.

Source another good used housing.

in other words your saying that when the housings go bad like that... it usally means either or both the eccentric shaft or the rotor bearings are going or gone?

don't mean to hijack your thread, just wanted to clear this cus i am rebuilding an engine.

its runnable, but i wouldnt expect the engine to last a long time. they chip at the edges like that cause the housings get hot and move around. the car prolly ran wth a plugged radiator or bad thermostat for a while

Looking at the wear, there may have been a little wobble in the bearings, not bad though. Specing the bearings and e-shaft is a normal part of a rebuild. Many of the builders prefer good used bearings, in spec, over new bearings. Breakin is shorter.

I guess how long would it last, would be a hard question to answer, I'll be using it as a daily driver will be streetporting it, and will be putting in brand new apexs and springsbecause the pits are smooth on the surface cause the yare indented, I could see it minimally affecting compression but would premature apex wear be a big issue?
