Rotor rotations or e-shaft?

I know the e-shaft rotates 3x per rotor rotation.

the rpm gauge in the car measures it from the coil. if u have something mechanical that u put to the end of a shaft, u'll measure it on the e-shaft.

If it's measuring off the coil should still be 3G per rotation of the rotor though, correct? Should give same result as mechanical off the eshaft.
