Tell me it tire size and rear gear I can tell u speed by rpm. GPS is also a great fix.
U can easily pull it speedo gear out of the trams and start trouble shooting there.

there is about a 50% chance that the speedo cable is just disconnected, and about a 44% chance that the speedo is bad, and about a 5% its the speedo, and a 1% chance something else happened

If you Really get stuck, and in a Pinch..
Download a App for a GPS Speedo on your Phone!(I have a Samsung GII S..something like that)
I tested one(it's FREE by the way) and it worked pretty good.It was pretty well bang on with my speedo.
I just downloaded it to see if was "all that"..haha..I was kind of impressed at it being free **** for your phone!

But ya the speedometer is cable driven so if it acts up then it is usually the cable, the cable connections, the gauge cluster or the gears at the trans.

i found that on my 80ls in 5th gear if im going say 3000rpm i simplify it to tens so now 3000 is 30 multiply it x2 and take a way 5 . 30x2=60-5=55mph25rpmx2=50-545mph that is as accurateas mine gets it has been checked by following polocecar and the littlt how fast your going sighns.

Get an app on your phone or buy a GPS....an App for phone works really well....google maps can give you speed.

Easiest way to tell.

Take gauge cluster out, drive car. If you can see the speedo cable spinning, speedo cable is more than likely not the issue. Otherwise it will be internal in the speedometer in which cause you just pop that gauge out and pop a different one in. Easier than it sounds.
