high oil pressure
I have a couple questions here. First of all, what kind of oil pressure am I supposed to be reading at different rpm's? At idle I get probably about 15 psi, and by 3k rpm's I have about 60psi and it just keeps climbing from there. The next line on teh gauge (90 I guess) is reached by 3500 rpms and I haven't been going any higher on the tach.
Here is how what happened. I changed my oil a couple days ago. I thought I would try Castrol GTX 20w50. I put a pennzoil filter in. I start the car and drive it a little and notice the high pressure. My first thought is that I put too much oil in. I drain the oil to where it is middle of the dipstick. Still high pressure. I figure maybe the oil is too heavy of a weight so I drain completely and put 10w40 in. Still high pressure. Maybe the filter is not flowing so I buy a Fram and replace that. Still high oil pressure.
What should I do from here? Is the pressure not really too high and I just don't know what it should be? Is there something else I should be looking at?
thanks

IMO that sounds normal, but it has been 5+ years since I owned a FD.
My only concern would be a clogged filter and no bypass valve in the filter. You will want to make sure that any aftermarket filter you use has a pressure bypass valve and anti drainback valve in it like the factory filter.

Heh, it seems to work mostly. The needle just started to move a little rough a few weeks ago.
I guess I won't worry too much about my oil pressure. I swapped oil filters again, this time put a purolator in and the oil pressure dropped again. Seems to be more like the pressure I had with the factory oil filter.

Needs new part
Will post again after I get it fixed. I was told it needs a new $100 part that regulates the oil pressure. That is supposed to be a known/common part that goes bad. Mine raises along with the rpm's and is burning oil up as well. So does my friends R2.

As long as your guage isn't riding on 0 PSI while the car is warm or driving, then I don't think the sender is a problem.

try cleaning the sensor itself. spray carb cleaner on that tiny hole where the oil goes. if that dont work, there is a website that discussed on how to clean the electrical contacts inside. something like k2rd...i will ck my file and let u know.
I believe the 3rd gen oil pressure regulator is 90 psi. 15 at idle and 90 at speed sounds right. I would make sure the filter is correct though. what was the oil pressure before the oil change and what is the pressure once the car is up to temperature. on my race car I run 100 psi and at temp and high rpm's it drops to about 75 psi. you should be fine with those readings.
I just had a similar problem, but mine was going a little above 90 and smoking like a bastard! Turned out to be a check valve that was bad. The black/green check valve going to your upper intake manofold, try taking off the hose on the black side and seeing what happens. There was a tremendous buildup of pressure for me. That means that there was too much pressure built up in the 'crankcase'. Hope this helps, but also hope this isn't your problem. Scared the $hit out of me.
