Unhappy Flooding out problem

Hello -- this is a question not from me, I am just trying to be the answer finder.
My step-father in Denver has a 1986 Mazda RX7 that has started flooding out. It will run apprx. 30 seconds and that is all. He is pretty mechanical and this is driving him crazy. I don't know any other details about the engine/car etc... if needed, I can call and ask him.
Anyone have any suggestions to try?
Thank you for any input!

You should talk to your step father and try to get some more information. Is it smoking really bad? Does it start really hard? These are some indications that it may be flooded.

Flooding makes engines difficult to start.

But his engine starts, and then runs for only 30 seconds.. so if this is a flooding problem, I wonder what could explain that kind of behavior..
