"Factory Rebuilt" motors are not rebuilt by Mazda. They contract the work out to USA based shops about every 2-3 years. Therefore the quality can and does change over the years. A remanufactured engine will NOT use all new parts. It will use used parts which are within spec like any other rebuild. An engine which uses ALL new parts runs about $8000. Those can be had from Mazdatrix. The problem comes more into the QA that happens (or doesn't happen) with the remanufactured motors.

The warranty on them is a 12 month or 12,000 miles warranty (i.e whichever comes first). These motors don't last 200,000 miles anyway. If replacing a motor is an issue for you, this is not the car for you. At some point, these engines will give up the ghost whether its a Mazda remanufactured engine or an engine built by a specialty shop.

Sometimes, sometimes, they last 26,000 miles.

Yes, I do. Ran one for a few years. I only put about 25k (that was over about 4-5 years) on it before it blew, but that was because of other reasons. It had nothing to do with the motor itself. Had I not been beating the crap out of it at the track several times a year without the proper mods, it would still be running just fine today.

Ignore Rich. He was abused as a child.

The motors are as good as you treat them. Its not going to blow up as soon as you get it *if* the car is relatively stock; however its not going to last a 150k miles either.

my reman lasted about 40k before losing a coolant seal. It was never overheated and was treated very well.
