i have a 92rx7 that is wrecked i want to put the motor in a 74 vw that has a n/a 86 13b. the 92 is a non sequential turbo with a apexi cpu mod. do i have to change counterweights front and rear to connect to a manual trans? i see theres a differnce between the two.

is your turbo engine automatic? If it is then all you need to do is remove the flex plate and install the flywheel that is currently attached to your n/a engine in its place .

NO..that is NOT it.
how will you get a Stock Flywheel to attach to a six bolt counterweight?..you won't.
The Manual Stock counterweight attaches with a 54 mmm nut on the eshaft, don't forget the Key way!

The counterweight on a Manual Stock flywheel is built into the Flywheel's casting,so you have to remove the auto Counterweight to install the Flywheel...and make sure that you install a PILOT BEARING In the E shaft as the Auto setup does not use a pilot bearing But the manual set up does.

IF you use a LIGHT aftermarket Flywheel(which is basically an Auto Flex plate with a clutch surface on it) you can Keep the Counterweight ON,but remember you still need a Pilot bearing.

Important that you use the Correct series Flywheel that corresponds with the engine.

he is installing the engine into a vw transaxle using a Kennedy flywheel at least that what I understood from his post. he already had a 6 port engine attach but wants to replace it with a turbo engine which only requires him swapping out the flex plate to the existing 6 bolt flywheel that is currently installed in his n/a engine but you are correct I for got to mention the pilot bearing and seal

well I can still see that he may try to use a flywheel that may not be the right application to the trans,If he tries to use an N/A Based flywheel to a TII trans...or vice versa.

OP: you need to fully disclose what you are using and intend to do to get more pertinent informative answers.Thanks.

i have a 74 vw that i bought it was already set up for a rotary conversion. i havent ever drove
it when i got it to run it was flooding and so i rebuilt the carb and got it to run but it was running hot due to the motorcycle type radiator they had, i changed it to a bigger two core solved the overheating then the next weekend i went to drive it and it started to shoot coolant out the exhaust so i plan on rebuilding if possible. in the mean time i came across a wrecked rx7 a 92 turbo w/ auto trans i pulled everthing out of that car and put the adapter plate and fly wheel of of my old 13b on the newer 13b it all fit and i got a new bushing for the vw trans, now im trying to wire it all up useing the complete hundred feet of the original rx7 harness. when it comes to these rotary motors im clueless these two i have are the only ive ever seen or touched.
so far it all seems to be working but time will tell.im shure you guys have a better idea with what i have than me so whatever advice you have is much appreciated. im going to finish wiring it up today and hopefully get it running so im sure ill have more questions. this car was meant to be a project with my son but he has lost intrest and mine has peaked im determined
to make it work.
