Cleaning out engine w/ ATF

Is this a supported cleaning procedure?

i was going to pour a tablespoon of atf per hole reinstall the old plugs, run it till it cleans up then put the new plugs in...

or could i just pull a vac line and ingest seafoam into it while it's running to accomplish the same goal?

Seafoam or BG44k will break up carbon in the engine. It seem to work best if you warm the engine then shut it down. Pull a vacuum hose and stick it in the can of whatever product you choose. The car will stumble and die but thats ok if you have the old plugs in. Let the carbon soak in the solution for an hour or so then start the car. When you start the car it will smoke like crazy but get the revs up until it smooths out.

Install the new plugs and drive it like you stole it...

Atf

I'm not really sure of those other products but i know that MMO works beautifully and it won't harm your engine in anyway.

I will never use ATF in any of my engines.

If you use ATF you dump most of a quart down the intake ports, spin the engine a bit with plugs out, and let it sit for a few weeks. It takes quite some time to do anything noticeable. (This information acquired through experimentation with genuine crusty parts from a genuine disassembled engine) Only useful on engines with seals that are stuck from sitting. On a running engine you don't do anything other than waste time.

If you just dump a little in and start it up, all you are doing is *adding* carbon, not removing it.

You're wasting your time. ATF doesn't do squat for carbon removal - it's a rotary myth.

You could. Some of use have done it with carb cleaner with some success.

Or you could do the water trick (my personal preference

Thumbs up

i put 2 gallons of water threw my motor and held the rpm's around 4k when it was finished there was alit bit of oil on the ground behind the exhaust.. the next day i put 2 cans of seafoam threw it and there was even more oil left on the ground ... the car seams to rev out alit quicker now/smoother. but these cleanings where very scary while doing. all the smoke and the way the car sounds when it starts getting it into the motor.. just take it for a good ride after it clears up, getting on it every few miles seemed to do the trick for my t2..

i used the ATF for my first startup when i received the motor from over seas and used 1 ounce in each housing just to get the internals softened up, and all went well for it..

water trick is better than the seafoam. ATF makes MORE carbon
