Buying an engine from a guy in Cali

What are my options as far as paying him and not getting screwed up the ***. Im a little leary of sending some a thousand plus dollars. So any ideas? Ive used paypal but not for anything that big. Is that a fairly safe way to do it? Like if he doesnt send the engine could I recover my money?

You can get insurance with paypal. And I'm nto sure if you can do it with paypal, but like with ebay you can put the money in escrow.

So you pay him, but the money goes into an escrow account. He gets notified, then he sends you the product. When you get the product and say, "Yeah, it's all good" you allow him to take the money out of escrow.

Safest way to pay a lot of $$$ over the internet to a stranger.

Im sure he wouldnt want to do escrow though because I could possibly screw him over (I wouldnt) using that system.

It's much safer for both parties that way. I believe insurance is included in the escrow price as well. It's more to protect the buyer than seller.

I was also thinking of COD. I think that would be a lot better even though it would be a little bit more. But it would be safer for me. And for a grand Im not taking any chances

There's issues with cod for the seller as well, say, on delivery you write a hot check.

Who is the guy? Maybe you can get some Cali folks from his area on the West coast forum to check him out.

cod would be one of the best ways. the hot check deal
should not be a issue. most cods require a moneyorder
or a certified check. certified meaning you go the bank
and give them money for a check. pretty much a fancy
money order...

unless its a major shop or dealer or something don't
trust anyone on buying car parts. I have had my fare
share of getting taken.

good luck,
James

if you pay with a credit card and you get screwed cant you dispute the claim or something like that before your monthly bill is due? ive never had to do that but i thought it was an option.
also if you get a money order i think you can hold payment on it untill you ok it

Im pretty confident about the guy im buying it from. Hes sold over 255 things on e-bay most of them being JDM parts with only 4 negative responses, and those responses were just saying he was rude. The rest were all praises. He said he doesnt do COD's but that I should call him tonight and he would explain why and we would talk about payment methods. So as soon as I get home from work I will be calling him.

Hmm, I was going to say, COD would be your best choice. The only advice to that is to always make sure what ever is supposed to come with the motor you ordered is ALL there before you sign papers and give the UPS guy the money order. But since he will not do COD, i don't know what to tell you.

BTW, i'll have your 250 tomorrow matt. Are you off work?
