Backfiring.
I know what it is, but people are talking about shooting flames, and that they can do it almost on command. I was wondering how people are doing this, since i think it would be pretty bad *** to bust out a nice flame for the people following too close on the freeway. Anyways, just trying to figure it out.

Or every time you let off the gas and get on it for that matter if your car isn't running right...
I used to make what I assume was a damn big fireball (shotgun-like noise) at 7K+ RPM shifts, but I fixed a vacuum leak and it went away... now I just make fireballs every time I go to zero throttle and open it back up again (and sometimes even when I don't get to zero throttle...).
You can expect some sort of flamage if you have a modified exhaust, especially with no cats.

So basically then, if you lose the cats in favor of a straight through with a muffler, and you get the rpm up and then let off, the excess gas is just cooking as it leaves the pipe. Is that about right? Anyone know if there are adjustable air fuel meters? I might want to have control of this...just for the shock factor.

I just recently put on my Racing Beat header, bonez hi-flow cat and an Apexi N1 catback on my NA FC. I was hoping to shoot some flames, I knew it would be harder with a hi-flow cat as opposed to a straight pipe but people say they shoot flames with hi-flows. I havn't shot anything, I pop a lot, even under light load but no flames My O2 is even unpluged and I thought that makes you run rich all the time. Oh well...

I wont have a cat on there when i finish doing what I want with it. I will fab some pipe up at school and just go straight back, to the Y pipe, and from there, both will go straight back to mufflers.

I attend Wyo Tech actually. I live out towards Davis, I live off a country road in boonie central. How close are you to Hayward? I have a friend out there that i go and hangout with every now and again.
With mufflers at the back? Itll be legal, though i may use some silencers and try to cut back on that. I want it to be quiet, but have alot of power.

just a random question here but if you remove your cats on an 86 N/A can that harm the engine at all because of the reduced back pressure?
i was told by someone that it can.. seeing as how i had problems after i did and i put in a high pro cat that the problem turned out to be wiring :grr:
