Anyone have vapor lock problems with 13B engine?
Does anyone have vapor lock problems with the 13B engine? My GSL-SE experienced what sure seemed like a vapor lock yesterday. I drove it several miles in close to 100 degree weather and it ran fine. But after I stopped to refuel, it wouldn't start properly. I let it sit for 15-20 minutes and then it started OK and ran fine until I got home. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.
Yep; The fuel pumps in my '84 are under the seat, same place as a GSL-SE. At low fuel levels during competitio in the summer, when the exhaust is extremely hot and the fans are blowing super hot air from the radiator down under the car while stopped, the fuel in the line between the tank and the pump boils.
Adding fuel always fixes it, since it reduces the amount of vacuum the pumps have to pull to get the fuel up and over the axle. If you had a starting issue with a full tank, I doubt it was vapor lock.
I'd be more inclined to believe in your case that there is something happening with your evaporative emissions system, where refueling pushed all of the vapors from the tank into the intake manifold, flooding the engine.
