Alternator not getting a charge.

Hey suddenly my stock S4 alternator went bad so I got a USED S5 alternator and hooked it up but still no luck. The guy I got it from said it was in good working condition when he took it out of his S5 since he upgraded to a FD alternator. I tested the top part of the alternator (the one that bolts down) and it was steady at 11.xxx I also tested each individual wire in the plug but I didnt get anything(plugged in a running). I think that alternator could be bad but the guy i got the alternator from came to my house to check it out and he was very suprised that it didnt work. He told me to take the car to autozone and they could tell me what the problem is, but I cant see through my front windsheild cause it took 2 blows with a baseball bat. If anyone can help me with this little problem I would be very greatful... some ricers bashed out my front and back windows so I don't have much money to spend on this dilemma. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Two things, you can take just the alternator Into autozone (I am pretty sure that all autozones have this) there is a machine that can test the alternator, off the car If you cannot drive it.

DONT EXPECT THEM TO TELL YOU WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CAR YOU WILL BE DISSAPIONTED, too many people expect that and get mad (trust me I know, I work there) They can tell you if the alternator is bad or not.

BTW the nicer you are to them the more help you will get.

Iirc the S5 alts are wired differently than the S4's. You will need to find the thread on how to rewire for it. I would just get the S4 alt rebuilt and be done with it.

The volt meter isnt working in my car so im pretty sure theres a wire that got loose somewhere but if anyone knows how i could fix/find that then it would save me $50 bucks going to a guy i know that can check the wires. Im in san diego if anyone wants to come and check out my car for me. lol. If you want to charge me then send me a e-mail at mazdakarate@yahoo.com
