Well...I cant give a u an idea of what might be wrong, but a "rough" suggestion, Try reving it a little as you put it in gear. Might get it going for ya.

A/T should be illegal. I just don't understand the point of it in a sports car. The purpose of a sports car is to be sporty, right?

Check your idle speed. It should be 750-800 rpm in drive, not park or neutral.

I think the lockup isn't disengaging. Basically the engine's connected directly to the diff.

Jack up the rear of the car, and give it a little gas as you're shifting into D.

If the wheels instantly start spinning fast at idle (20mph or something?) that means that the lockup is messed up.

Your torque converter is fine, if it were frozen up, then the engine wouldn't run in any gear, P, or N because no matter what setting it's in, it's always pumping fluid.

If you have a vacuum leak in the system somewhere and have turned down the idle to compensate for the high idle a vacuum leak usually causes, it will die when put into gear.

Yes, that was me. Your engine is fine, your trans is the one that's messed up. Set the TB settings back to how they were and go get your tranny rebuilt. Basically in fourth gear, the engine and trans are spinning at the same speed, so a torque converter actually makes it lose power, so there is a lockup that engages so the trans is one unit, sort of like a manual trans. However, like a manual trans, if left engaged, it will stall out, unless the rear end doesn't have a load on it.

Moral: go get your trans rebuilt. Sorry, ain't no way around that.
