NH 87 Turbo II - Thermostat question

So i recently bought this car without it running.
got it running finally and i am gonna replace the fluids in the motor. Already did an oil change, plugs, wires, and a fuel filter. I also did many other things to get it running (ie gas tank and fuel pump) so i know i have clean gas getting up there.

While running it, it got about 2/3 of the way to hot and i shut it down. i did this knowing that if you run these cars too hot, that the are junk.

My question being is that should i just remove the thermostat entirely or replace it along with the water pump? i plan on doing the water pump anyways.

You can do the pump and change the Thermostat separately and at the same time.
seeing as the thermostat is below the thermo neck and between the WP housing.
and the Waterpump is on the front of the WP housing and is separate anyways.
Get an OEM thermostat,,all others are Crap...NO Stant thermo's..

Alright. I just had heard that removing the thermostat made it run a little cooler, seeing as they run a little hot. And what's wrong with stant thermostats?

removing the stock thermostat leaves the bypass port open, so that the water flow bypasses the radiator...

well then that sounds like a terrible idea. and that answers my second question of the water pump having a bypass, because while i ran my car i got heat inside the car. But the coolant in the radiator and overflow was boiling. The top radiator hose was rock hard. This now explains why i had heat and the top hose was hard.

however, i know oem is always better, but they want 100 bucks for a damn thermostat...whats wrong with a stant thermostat?

use search and punch in Stant thermosat.
here is just one of the threads. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ant+thermostat
and ya Mazdatrix has thermostats for 20 bucks.
If you are gonna drive a 20 year old car it is best to start to know where you are gonna get replacement parts..Even the dealer is not going to stock parts you may need.
