Vacuum line Guru’s please help! This is killing me.(pics)

Okay this is 2 shots of the rear of the engine … this is the rear Vacuum spider thingy. I took pictures of all this before I took it apart .. but for the life of me I cannot find the pictures I need help! I have looked and looked at the FSM but they do not break down this spider very well. Can anyone take pictures of this part on there car? Or edit my photos to show where they go? I would really appreciate it. I gotta get this car running for SS5.

Car is a 10Ae or 88 Turbo II.

Let me know if you need other photo’s or have any questions I will do all I can to help myself.

Thank You.

Firts picture is self explanitory I need to know what line goes on what line on the other side.. or if they go elsewhere. At least 1 has to go elsewhere cause there is 4 on the left side and 5 on the right.

Now this is the second part I am having trouble with .. not as important but it would help if you know where the 3 circled lines go. ... dont mind the caps I put those on for the time being.

The second picture....get rid of the thing mounted with two nuts. No one ever anywhere use that cold start fluid device.

Second picture again......the small pipe with the black cover on it, more to the right than the other objects...it goes to a pipe just next to the cold start fluid device. The pipe I'm talking about is slanted to the rear of the engine.

Hailers, Is the item circled in Red what you are saying to remove? If so. .. wont I get a hell of a vacuum leak? Would I be better off blocking off the hoses instead?

Also is the blue line thet hoses you are saying to connect?

Thx

Yep, the blue lines. Could leave that *thing* in place and cap the ends. I just removed it and put some JBWELD on a flat piece of aluminum and pasted it in place. On my N/A engine its on the other side of the manifold and I removed it and JBWELDED a quarter over it. Its still there today.

See if this makes sense:

The switching solenoid is the grey one.

The fuel pressure regulator is the orange one.

The relief solenoid is the blue one.

Where it says the bottom of the turbo....is the green solenoid.

The EGR is the yellow solenoid.

Now, the above is where the pipes COME FROM. Now you have to find the final destination.

The relief and switching are on the acv. Two pipes are for the relief, one coming and one going from the acv to the blue solenoid.

The EGR is on the back of the engine on the passenger side.

The fuel pressure regulator is on the end of the secondary fuel rail.

Those three pipes (maybe four, I forget) that are to the left in the picture of the six shown in my drawing, are just ways to come and go from the acv and egr. Matters not which you use to route with, as long as the final destination is right. Make sense. Prob not.

If not, we can take one line at a time and try to make sense out of this.

Do you agree that of the six that are together, one is just a little aft of the others?? Thats the way I drew the picture using my spare engine. Diagram shows fwd, left and right. Fwd being the front of the engine.

Wow ... okay I'm with ya. I had thought about chasing them from the start to there destination ... but when I lloked at the solidiod area it was even more complicated... I mean copper hoses everwhere including some comming from the front of the motor. I was like ... ouch.

I gottcha on the aft one. I was pulling a hose off just a bit ago and almost lost a thumb .. damn thing \was stuck .. finlay came off with a full force pull ... and Fugged my thumb up ... don't make me take a picture of that

Yo, if you check it from the solenoids, its best to have a piece of two foot long vac hose and some cigars. Just pull the vac hose off the solenoids and blow towards the rack, not into the solenoid (duh!).

To the best of my knowledge there is nadda darn picture that shows clearly the routing to and from those six pipes in your picture nor the other three(four?). I tried to explain this to a fellow about a couple of months ago and made a mess of it. That simple circle picture should help. I'm sure there will be more questions. Oh and do get rid of that cold start device. Just takes up too much room under there. I even got so discouraged I moved my spider to the firewall and ran the vac hose to it, so I'd have a easier time installing the upper intake . Gotta sleep. Later.

Damn the smoke idea was good one .. but I had 1 where smoke came out the front, one where smoke came out of a hose right next to the one I was blowing in ... and 2 that had smoke come out in the siliniod area. It was a great idea ... but just confused me more I thought I would get smoke to come out at one siliniod per hose .. instead it ran all over Bummer.

This is the other end of the soup im working with they don't all have color tags .. i have some figured out .. can anyone help me label them?

Okay the parts with the green circle is where I got smoke to come out .. from blowing on the 5 hoses on the right hand side of the first picture.

One of the other lines I blew in smoke came out the line on the spider right next to it ... what does this mean, Can i get a break down.

Thx

Oh boy, now I remeber why I removed all that nonsense. If you don't have to worry about emissions stuff then just get rid of all that jazz. Screw the twin scroll, remove ACV, block off EGR, split air. All you need is oil injectors, fuel pressure regulator, pressure sensor and I think I'm forgeting something but you get the idea

What is it that the solenoid bank does exactly anyways?

I started a thread about getting rid of all this crap and no one has mentioned the intended purposes for them. Just that they're emissions related

At work so I can't look at the car. But lets do this just the opposite. In the last picture, the row of four solenoids in a row. The solenoid you have circled should have a green plug. Its got two hose on it. Pull one hose off the solenoid at a time, and blow into the hose. One of the hose that you blow into should have the smoke exit at one of the five at the back of the engine. That metal pipe is to feed the switching actuator at the bottom of the turbo.

The next solenoid over is the Switching solenoid, grey in color. Do the same with it. Take off both hose and blow until one exits smoke at the five pipes aat the rear. That feeds the switching diaphram in the ACV. The nipple on the acv that it goes to is the one sticking straight up.

The next solenoid is orange. Take the hose off until one exits smoke at the five pipes at the rear. That one needs to feed the pressure regulator on the end of the secondary fuel rail. That mushroom outfit. I'm pretty sure that the other hose on the orange solenoid, when smoke is blown into it, the smoke will exit at that slanted pipe near that sub-zero cold start system that you might/might not remove.

The next solenoid is BLUE. On this one you will find that when you pull both hose off and blow into them, they BOTH will have smoke exit at the five pipes at the rear. These feed the acv also. One goes to the bottom of the acv, the mushroom part, and the other goes about midway on the acv.

The last solenoid is the one sitting by itself outboard of the others. Its Yellow in color. One of its two hose should exit at the rear and its final destination is the egr valve on the rear of the engine.

Remember, on the Green, grey, and yellow solenoids, one of the hose on each solenoid is being feed a vacuum from the front of the throttle body. Thats why you saw smoke come from one of the three pipes in the front.

Its not really complicated once you know the function of each solenoid. Then its just a matter of making sure the pipes feed the right object at the other end.

One thing I have not addressed. That is the four pipes just to the right of the five we've been talking about. Three are connections going to the acv. The other is I think the one that connects near the egr valve. Of course you have to add vac hose b/t them and the five and also at the final destination.

Yeah. Your right. I need a camera. By the way, those were decent pictures you made.

Ah Nuts.

HAILERS did a good job of explaining what all those selonoids are for. I called my local Mazda dealer and got them to fax over a copy of the Micro Fiche and the page that exlpains what they all are and do. If I remember I will bring it to school with me and scan it in.

Yo. I',m sure there's some holes in what I wrote but we can figure it out.

One thing a little off the subject, but take a vacuum hose to the acv nipple that sticks straight up in the air. See if it will hold a vacuum. The reason I suggest this is that that is the switching diaphram your checking and they have a habit of getting too hot on a turbo engine and cracking. If it won't hold a vacuum, then its worthless. Can be fixed, but its trouble.

Damn I almost forgot (that would have cost me) Its my GF's birthday today .. I have to go to her place and take her the TV I got her and cook dinner watch the 9'er game. I guess I won't get to the vacuum lines tonight But rest assured I will be tackling them again tommorow & all weekend until they are conquered.

I will keep you all posted. If things go bad .. I would not mind footing the phone bill to Texas Hailers ... just a thought.

Hey that would be a great idea! I'm in the middle of tearing all that shiznit out. I've already removed my PS, A/C, ACV and Air Pump. I still need to remove my Split Air pipe, EGR and the rest of the vacuum lines that ran to the ACV. Don't worry to much about emissions. My buddy has ALL of his Pollution crap out and he still passed by putting back his cat's and by leaning the crap outa his fuel mixture.

It's bloody well DONE! what a pain in the ***, but I got them all ... and ... they are all right!

Thank for your help Hailers you discriptions were right on, and helped a ton!

And Thanks TurboDan for letting me come to your cassa and take pictures of your RX's that was also a great help.

I will post lots of good PICs and a "kinda" write up on all this crap later this week. Hopefully it will help someone else later on down the road.
