How much can my TII trailer?

Ok my car came from the previous owner with hitch well attached to the frame of the car. All i need now is a tongue. The use was for a small trailer for his Seadoo's, another trailer that was for his sportbikes (two ZX-7R's) and his race tires (a full set), plus some small tools. Know i need to move to Daytona from Mississippi, and i need to take some stuff with me. My EX250 Ninja and my futton. How much weight can i trailer. The tongue weight will be under 200 lbs. I figured maybe, about 800 lbs total. SO has anyone ever subjected their 7 to this? I have more than enough power. it's the frame i'm concerned about. but i think it shold hold. My suspension is coilover, and everything is fully adjustable. help me out guys.

Get a Uhaul, and trailer your RX behind it, with your stuff in the Uhaul.

I've pulled sail boats. A NACRA 5.2 catamaran about 420 miles to Corpus Christi and 420 miles back a few times. Boat weight is approx 350 lbs with mast, sails, daggerboards etc. Trailer weight? Got me. Done the same thing with a 82RX-7 except it was a NACRA 18 Square catamaran (best cat ever made). About the same weight. Done the same using a Ford Fiesta.

I have a trailer hitch on my 7. Use it for a bike rack. And when the day comes I will put autox tires on my tire trailer.

Owner's manual says that you cannot haul NOTHIN' with a 7 - I personally think that you would destroy the clutch and probably the tranny as these cars have no 'lugging' power whatsoever.

i guess this doesnt count as hauling, but i pulled my friends dad's truck one day cuz the glo plugs went out and he had to pull start it or something, dont remember, but it was a 4 door older 7litre diesel chevy or something like that, truck well over 4000lbs and it had a 35foot car trailer on the rear, not loaded, but still heavy, pulled it for about 20 miles tryin to get that damn thing started, i had no troubles

I haul **** all the time. ONce i hauled 5 rotary blocks to a rebuilder(about 4hours one way away) before I had a truckm,, and before I built them myself. I have also towed numeous other rex's with a rex, and many of my friends with cars. hook a chain up and go. That **** tows nice, at least as nice as my s-10 v6 5sp.

Hey it's TII ( so the tranny is beefy) and the clutch is an ACT EXTTREME. so if that burns then i'm dissapointed in the clutch. I wish i could trailer my car there. God knows i want to, but the money isn't there. And I have to go to school.

This cracks me up.
Anyone want to know if the RX can plow snow also

These websites list hitches for the car. You can call Uhaul to see what they recommend. Bageco lists a 2000lb class1 hitch. 1000lbs total shouldn't be an issue. Anymore than that and I would recommend a trailer with brakes to prevent it form biatchslapping you when you slam on the brakes in an emergency situation.

www.uhaul.com
http://www.bageco.com/hitchlistsp.htm

The problem with the RX7 is that it is NOT a sports car WHEN towing. I can just imagine that motorcycle/jetski/cargo trailer behind the T2 going a 125mph down the highway. I can also picture a street race where the trailers cargo slids off as the T2 accelerates away.
It seems that Mazda was a little excessively careful with the DO NOT TOW warning in the owners manual. The biggest issue with towing isn't engine power. It IS braking/handling power. The RX7 doesn't lack braking or handling problems like other compact/subcompact vehicles that CAN tow.
But, it is way too easy to stress the limits of the trailers suspension/tires/hitch....and the method of cargo attachment to the trailer.

My only concern would be the frame bending?? I'm not doing over 75MPH. and i realize i need more braking distance. with the trailer it shold be under 1,000 lbs.

As already stated the owners manual says do not tow with this vehicle. It doesn't say why. I expect it is because of the Toe control hub.

Have any of the people that have been towing compared there alignment before and after towing for a while?

The Rx-7 has more than enough power and brakes to tow about 1000lbs but I would worry about the rear suspension.

While Ive never towed anything with a sports car, the few times Ive crawled under my rex to work on it I notice that there isnt much to hold onto. If you have a frame great, but unibodies dont have much that stands out as being incredibly solid. Im not saying theyre weak, but I can look under my little ford ranger xlt and say "yep, thats a nice strong spot to hold onto".

Rexs dont have the low end torque meant for towing.

I have a hitch on my N/A....
I tow a sea doo, 450 lbs, and the trailer is maybe 200-250.
So maybe 700lbs.
Tounge weight is maybe 40 lbs at most.
I barely feel it when I'm pulling it- it doesn't even drag the engine car as much as the A/C compressor!!
I bet I could pull off a 16 flat ET with the trailer.
I do feel it bumping the car around a tad when I'm going over bumps, but not too much.
The most I feel it is in the brakes. Mind you- it's still perfectly fine, but that's the only area I can feel the trailer in.

I've eliminated my rear toe bushings and now have delrins. I hated the rear steer, so i got rid of it. the hitch actually mounts to several locations. 4 total i think. very well designed. 2000 lbs max and a max tongue weight of 200 lbs. I won't be pushing that though. my friend is building a 74 wagon, with my TII drivetrain. Yeah that should tow some.

well i made it no problem. the gas mileage was horrible but that's due to the Haltech not being tuned. it really pulled ok and on the way to FL through GA is saw a black convertible also towing a 4 X 8 uhaul trailer. it was funny because we were going in opposite directions. So who ever said this things can't tow. I don't know what the big problem was. car looks really weird with hitch on it though. at least when i take the tongue out, no one can tell. Thanks for all the help guys.
