Smoke and smog
Smoke and smog
Alright. I have an 86' RX-7, when I start her up she has to turn over 5 or 6 times before she'll catch. When she does start up she'll run for a second, then die. Start her back up rev her a bit then she idles fine, but a giant cloud of smoke fires out the back too. It flows for awhile too. It won't pass smog either, It's been labled as a gross poluter. I'm guessing it has something to do with a fuel oil mixture, would I be wrong? Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks for the time and help.

So what would be a possible problem? Oil control rings are shot? I know when I put it on there it was spitting out 270 or something. :-/ Not to mention the chugging that happens after I drive after awhile. Put too much stress on it going up a hill and then it'll start to hesitate, then catch its self.
It could be this:
The symptoms:
Hard to start, catches & sputters, blows white smoke, then clears up & runs OK.
The seal between combustion gasses & water jacket is a rubber O-ring in a groove all the way around the aluminum housing.
If it leaks you get coolant in the combustion chamber and overheating symptoms, sort of like a blown head gasket in a piston engine.
I have had this happen, and was able to patch it with radiator stop leak.
I caught it early, before there was too much erosion of the O-ring.
To fix:
Good coolant flush, add half the stop leak, idle warm up to full temp, shut off & cool down cold, (repeat)
Do a search under "block weld".
Many have had good luck with that product & there is a good write up on the forum using it.
No guaranty, but it can’t hurt to try..

Alright. Well, now something is truly messed up! I just started it to take a little drive cause I needed something to do. It started up with ease this time which boggled me, but I was happy, and it idled fine too. Still had the horrible white smoke that smelled like gas though, and it was billowing out hardcore, then it started to just chug as it was warming up, the exhaust was shaking, and almost the whole car. So I let it warm up for a few more minutes then I went to take off, it had next to no power at all! When I gave it some gas it felt like the pedal sank, but there was no response. Just enought power to roll, and it chugged non-stop. I'm really freaked now. lol. I'm hoping the APEX didn't blow.....
