Interior Swap

So, someone told me that I could use high heat paint for my dash instead of actually replacing it.

Anyone have an opinion on this?

I have a red interior and wanted to change it to black, some time ago someone said that spray painting black would be easier.

I am curently painting the interior of my fc. Going from red to black and gray. I am using rustoleum vinyl and fabric paint, and duplicolor vinyl and fabric. So far everything is fine. The biggest thing is letting it dry for several days. Do not mess with it for at least 3 days. We have not done the dash yet, but will be soon.Interior Swap-rx7-025.jpg

If we're talking FDs here... I wouldn't damage that red interior. It's rare and desirable.

To the right buyer, you can pay for more then just a black dash.

I just finished myinterior trim and my dash to my GSL SE it was a faded out Brown Burgundy color to Deep Cranberry Pearl. I am now returning my pieces into the car so far so good, there were a few places on the dash where the paint did not stick I cleaned the area for loose paint and cleaned with rubbing alchol and re sprayed. As I put the dash back there were a few areas the paint came off it is next to the windshieild, so I had not put the windshield in yet so I taped off the bad spots and resprayed again. Now the windshield is in place all is well so far. I believe it was the grease on my own hands when I rem oved the dash to begin with that cause the problem. Make sure your hands are clean before you handle your interior dirty, faded, or not.
The paint I used are Dupli-Color Adhesion Promoter, Perfect Match (Deep Cranberry Pearl), Acrylic Enamel (Clear)
Needless to say the interior is looking beautiful that I am looking at a whole body paint job. Goodluck.

suzanna is right. make sure you use the adhesion promoter when you paint something rubber or plastic and i have seen the rustolem vinyl paint come out nice. whether or not id use it on a red fd interior, is another story.

Personally yes I have used the high temp paint. (ceramic) I prefer the shine it gives, it dries quick, and provides a thick protection layer. However, you cant use it on flexible parts, only the plastics. Any ceramic paint on rubber or flexible parts will crack the paint.

Auto Headliner Replacement Kit For Car, Truck, Van, SUV - Stock Interiors

my beloved rx-7 interior is hot as hell in the summer, so I want to change the interior to beige/tan/pearl with red accents. some say that vinyl paint is all that is needed, others say peel and stick (above link ) works wonders, and the auto customizing shops say the 1st two are crap!!

Please share your experiences in changing the interior. Its been my experience that if you dress up the exterior of a car, it is a target for vandals.
