because the pics are on another forum I think they have a remote linking prevention thing going on ... I got them to work by right clicking and cutting and pasting the address ... then once you have looked at one that way, all of them work

P.S happy birthday for last week

Mike what year is that car of yours? I'm not very familiar with the MK or Series definitons. We only use the generations overhere. But as far as I know MKI is 79-80, MKII 81-83 and MKIII 84-85. But I thought the dash was a 81-83 style? Might just been me... So let's solve this mistery :-)

Mines an '84

as far as I know European FB's had the same dash 81-85 with other bits of the interior changing , such as the steering wheel in 84-85

The yanks got a totally different dash in 84-85 so that might be what your thinking of

as far as I can remember

79-80 - Discs & drums + early style dash insert with no volt meter on the tach + steel bumpers

81-83 - Disc - disc (unvented) + new style bumpers + revised dash and interior (dash insert with volt meter under tach) +15hp

84-85 -brake vents added in front spoiler , bigger vented discs all round, 114.3 bolt pattern, stronger axle, different steering wheel, adjustable lumbar support on drivers seat, headlight washers etc. etc.

I'm sure I've missed loads off and I bet its different in other parts of the EU

Mike you're wrong abouit the dash. My 84 has a different dash then the 80 and the 82. Maybe the new (mk3) style dash only came left hand steer? Other then that I knew all the differences you mentioned, so it might indeed be a LHD/RHD thing. To prove that: Magnus Mariah has a 84 interior, and has a late style dash too.

hIGGI... Iwas going tyhrough some of the pics on the chezh website, and noticed that you have urethane bushings.

Now my questions are:

*Is there any special tools that i should aquire before changeing them.
*Where does the tie rod end boots go
*And finallly is there anything that i should be aware of when swapping them

Thanks Kim

chezh???? :O)

Tie rod end and balljoint boots from that kit are supposed to go onto front suspension (u have one ball joint holding wheel hub, other - smaller balljoint = tie rod end is the one which is connected to steering rack)
I actually haven`t used the ones from bushings kit since they don`t have springs which will hold them on. And i had brand new ball joints so i wasn`t in need of them.

Special tool - press. U need to press out some old bushings. Energy suspension kit is around $95 but some other company kit in same quality should be only like $65

Kim, I read in your sign that your car has no power steering. Did it come without, or did you remove it?
I was kind of wondering if/how you can remove the PS. This is because of a future project I have in mind.
Next on the list for me is cleaning up the car. Since the FD-swap is cancelled for a while (hopefully it can be done this summer/autum) I will spend some extra time on the interior of the car, aswell as the engine bay.
Some paint here and there, some new silicone hoses, maybe some polishing and so on. It all has to done before june, for the German club meeting.
I also need a new E-fan. Mine works just fine, but doesn't look the part And looks are important, aren't they

Thats right no p/s the former owner took it off and replaced the Rack&pinion with one from a non powersteered car or Rx7, ive never heard or read about a fc without but ill send the guy an email asking him what car he got it from.

And yes i also think that a nice car is all about looks and appearence, so i guess that my car isnt nice because it has a junkyard fan in it but im looking to get that solved in the future, but first she needs a new black coat
and springs, FD alternator, maybe a new windscreen etc etc the list goes on and on and on and on a...........

***EDIT***:
I just sent the guy an email ill let you know when he asnwers it.

Looks like all the LHD cars got the updated dash then, I've seen quite a few RHD 84's 85's and 86's in the UK and they all have the same dash as mine e.g a 81-83 style one

lucky buggers is all I can say ! appart from the non centrally mounted tach, I love that feature on my dash even though it means I end up speeding as I'm used to my speed being in the centre (but officer I was only doing 3000rpm )

There were some FC models without PS.
Interchanging is easy. My TII had PS, and i am using manual steering rack now.
It takes little bit time to swap from one to other, u don`t need remove subframe or engine, just loose front sway bar.

here are pictures of my swap

http://rx7cz.net/photos/works23/

(i did removed subframe since i was changing it...but on other car i changed racks in about 2 hours without removing it)

Did i mention that my everlasting project:seven are getting new springs in a couple of weeks, she will be lowered 35mm by Ventura Sports Springs. I never heard of them i think that they are polish (the country not shiney) with a slight increase in spring-rate.
