prices for ecu's

i was wondering if someone could give me a price breakdown on ecu's that would be applicable to a first gen with a tec II motor. i dont really plan on making more than 300 horses anytime so that all i need to support. thanks. also, what else would i need to help feed this kind of power, like fuil lines and what not, thanks again.

Do you mean that the motor is equiped with an Electromotive TECII EMS, or was that a typo for Turbo II Motor?

No problem, I know how it is.

A good mid-grade EMS is between $1,200 and $2,800. The choice really depends on what you like. I would recommend checking into the following:
AEM Race (Aailable soon - see the RX-7 store for details)
Electromotive TECIII (Available soon)
Haltech E6K
Motec M4
Wolf 3D 4.0 (Available soon)

You will also need a high-flow fuel pump and injectors. Check here for sizing:

I'm not sure, but I think that you will also need an aftermarket turbo, manifold, wastegate, intercooler, and street porting for that horsepower level unless you use nitrous. You may want to post in the 2Gen area for better budget ideas to attain this performance level. Here is a thread on the subject, but I'm not sure if it is very enlightening.

Well, the pros/cons depend on the individual and the car. For example, I like the idea of having 3d boost control, so in my case the Wolf is better than the Haltech. However, others may not care about 3d boost control, and would prefer the datalogging and wideband O2 sensor of the Haltech. Here is a link which attempts to list the features of different EMS units, but I think that it leaves out the important issues (rotary mode, trailing throttle settings, cold idle settings, fuel and ignition trim options, etc.) which unfortuantely will be over the head of a newbie.

Also, there is the support issue. It is a 45 minute drive to my local Wolf dealer, a 2 hour drive to the closest Haltech dealer, I think that my local Electromotive dealer is a moron (sorry, no names), and as far as I know there are not any rotary-smart AEM or Motec dealers in my state. You may also want to consider technical support over the telephone or email, internet support (IMO Haltech is best in this respect, Wolf a far second), manufacturer-approved courses (Motec is best for this), or even the experience of your local tuner if you do not plan on tuning yourself or if you need help.

My best recommendation is to buy an EMS with an installation and tuning package deal. Ask your local tuners which EMS they can install and how much it will cost, and check the web for more info. Probably the best info (although biased) is right here in the RX-7 forum. Here are some manufacturer links:

You can try the Microtech MTX-8. This is the most used ECU in OZ for rotaries. retail is NZ $1750 less GST. So would cost you $750US + freight.
