Go with Haltech, it has more support since it is based in the US. Just to upgrade to a 3 bar map sensor, I had to spend $40 shipping it to AU, $325 for the upgrade, and $55 for shipping back. As far as performance, they are about equal I believe.

I only have experiences with the MicroTech, so I don't have much to say about the Haltech.
I've had no issues with mine so far, install was fairly straightforward, and the hand controller is pretty handy for adjustments on the fly. I'm not sure if the Haltech has a handset like MicroTech does.
The only downside I see to the MT would be servicibility and lack of flexibility(I can't use it on the 13B-REW). Prices are fairly decent for new units, I got my LT8-s for $800 shipped new from a member on these boards.
What this all boils down to is who you want to tune the motor. If you're doing the tune, pick whichever one fits you. Do some more research, and learn everything about each system; MicroTech and Haltech aren't the only options out there, btw. If you're not doing the tune, pick one that is most familiar to tuners in your area.
