ECU Upgrades for the 20B

Hi there, does anyone know about the different companies who does upgrades for the stock 20B ECU and the costs of it as well? I noticed recently on eBay that a guy was selling a 20B with tranny all modified and the ecu was upgraded by Pan-speed. I was wondering if anyone knew how I could contact them to get more info. on this.

Thanks

Well, if you want to keep the stock ECU, you've got to keep the stock (auto) tranny. This poses a problem for most enthusiasts. Basically, if you want to chip the stock ECU, you're on your own in pretty-much uncharted territory.

Hey Brandon,

Uncharted territory is quite true indeed. Its a pity, somehow I feel of I was closer to Japan , it would have been a bit easier. If I was going manual tranny, I know I wouldn't have much of a problem to deal with....

Well I will correct you all right now. If you keep the stock ECU, you DO NOT need to keep the stock tranny.
I have a S6 5 speed gear box in my 20B JC Cosmo, I also run the staock 20B ECU!

Yo dude, you read me wrong there, I agree that the stock ECU would work with a manual gearbox. My problem is if I still plan to use the auto tranny, I must use the stock ECU, even if I want to run an aftermarket engine management , it'll have to be installed as a piggy-back with the stock ECU, just to enable use of the auto tranny. But briefly, what are all the parts required when going manual ?

so dude, more so my comment was at no7yet.

To go to a manual, in a cosmo?? You need to make a gear box cross member.
you need a gear box ( I went S6)
with S6 box you need to have the speedo signal recalibrated.
if you use a S4/5 box you just put the factory auto sender in the manual box ( a littl emod to fit)
You need cluch and flywheel
You also need to make a pedal for the clutch.
Then you need to modify the driveshaft to suit or simply use a 13B JC driveshaft

Hmmmm....sounds like a bit of work involved, I think I can get access to a S6 gearbox, flywheel , clutch , but the clutch pedal assembly would be a bit tricky. Can the Cosmo pedal assembly easily accept that extra pedal with no worries, and the clutch master cylinder too?

im wondering the same thing. it makes no sense to me, there must be a way to make it the stock ecu work with a manual trans... does anyone know the exact reason the ecu does not work with a manual trans? is it because of the unconnected tranny plugs? can't you just prvoide the required signal externally if this is the case? there must be a logical explination and solution, i do not believe that it is impossible. i will find a way to use the stock ecu, especially since the only other option is spending 1,500+ on standalone

If a $1500 standalone (you can get a LTX12 cheaper than that) is stopping you from doing the 20B swap, you probably won't be doing it anyhow.
