I like the go drive it comment...that said, I would go rotary, just because you wouldnt have to do motor/transmounts/diff swap or rebuild/worry about the shifter and such.

The route I would suggest taking.

Stock Motor. Drive. Work on driving. Drive some more.

T2 trans and diff swap...trans for sure...clutch type LSD for NA would work too.

Rear toe steer bushing change, poly bushings throughout. Shortshifter (Corksport one is bad ***)

Suspension. Coil overs are expensive...but RB springs on some KYB's, or some good Bilsteins will be alright too.

Not when its all nicely tucked behind the strut towers.

But really an LS powered car is easy to drive. But I think you have to be smoother to drive a bigger displacement engine like that. With the REW I find myself either right at the rev limiter or constantly changing the throttle input for the conditions of the turn/track/wtf ever. In an LS car you go in smack the throttle once let off for a split second and you are back on it at a steady, almost never changing, throttle position throughout the corner. This is mainly due to the amount of torque the motors generate at a certain RPM. My rew really is not all the peaky, its a midrange car and very controlable on technical sections where a broad powerband is better. The LS is about the same with way more toque, I do not have to try and keep tire speed up or tires spinning on longer corners, and if everything plays out ok very small adjustments to the throttle input is all I need in the technical stuff. A couple of run I never let off or changed my throttle position, I just turned the wheel and the car went that way no fiddling with letting full off and getting back on it, or seeing if I added to much throttle and the turbo spools up and I go around.

If you can understand that, then you are doing alright lol.

The LS1 and T56 tranny from a 04 GTO is what I plan on running. Simple intake, exhaust, headers, small lift cam and tune should be hitting about 450 reliably. Also getting 30 mpg and have the power to drift in any gear.

Oh did I mention you can fix almost anything on that motor in the parking lot of napa?

It is a no name exhaust. Actually it is a straight pipe designed to look like a muffler. Got it at Up Garage and I just took it off my current car, it is STUPID loud and people run away from the start gate when you drive.

thanks for the compliments though

DO IT.

I love rotaries but I'd put a ls1 in my car if I had the cash.
My next big project was either 20b street ported NA or ls1.

The LS1 is cheaper and more reliable with higher power.

here are pics of a local doing ls1 in his drift car.

Then there is another guy with turbo LS2 S13

**** looks dope!

I tend to hate ls1 cars because I am jealous.......LOL Seriously once you know how do drive that flat long powerband makes it easier to look like a very good driver........and A pillar tire smoke is awesome.

What is cooler than that is when you tandem and the rotary is beside the guy saying get the **** out fo the way.

yup. and still 209830983 times better on gas than an ls1 will ever be i dont care who disagrees with me. rotory is the way to go. =)

Ls1 powered 240 got 28mpg on the highway and about 20 in town.

The amount of work and money to do it is just too much imo. I actually have an old 350 v8 with low miles on it. I has several mods..... It made 365hp in the old Monte Carlo it was in......LOL I bough a center float carb and stuff for it and was ready to do it. Then I felt like **** cuz I really really wanted my damn rotary to just ******* act right. So I sat down and did the math......hahah wow I could redo my 13bt twice for the cost of putting this old carb motor in the car.

Now I am gonna go half bridge and see if I cant get some more torque and earlier power with the ablity to rev at 8500rpm. Im just not done with rotaries and they are way way cooler than pistons anyday

Going LS1 in my street car is cheaper in the long run for me. 400hp in my street car is more reliable, fuel efficient and cost effective going to a LS1. We have a bunch of ls1 guys getting 30mpg with a good tune.

lol, I can tell your a newb.

High HP rotaries DO NOT make 28mpg.

More like 12-15mpg.

LS1's WILL get better MPG per HP than a rotary. FACT...

I'd personally like Mike Whiddet's 26B 4rotor for drifting. I dont even care about the gas mileage

also if I decide to rebuild the 13b and add lots of mod instead of dropping in a LS1 what would I have to do to make 550+ reliable horsepower?
Would it be possible to make that much reliable hp out of a 13b? sorry if I sound stupid but I just hear lots of bad things about the rotary
thats why I was thinking of a LS1 swap. So please give me your opinion of the better engine and what would be better for drifting.

ok, how really expeirenced are you? because drifting is not about power (HACHI) its about skill and technique! lets see how much I think i know!
ok from a beginner too a begginer!

firstly-bushing make all the suspension bushings NEW by magic or whatever just do it!
secondly-DTSS stabilizers go too mazdatrix or somthing! theres forums on it!
thirdly-LSD 1.5 or welded diff if you know a relly expirenced welder but LDS is better!
fourthly-RIMS an extra pair www.diamondracingwheels.com dont have too look ballin! YET
fif-coilovers if you have this much money go get some DG5 coils

and i think your all set for now dont worry about the engine just make it the
13B-T! keep the heart of the car!

REMEMBER THIS, the stance of your car is everything! offset camber wheelspacers rolled fenders! if your gonna do it, do it legit! no obnoxious stickers please!
