What to use tax refund for...
So the government decided to grant upon me a ton of money...2600 for my tax refund. I'm building a drift fc right now and have been getting parts together while waiting for my tII swap from japan2la. I just got the enginr Saturday morning, so this is basically what I've got now:
-S5 TII motor/tranny w/ jspec ecu and wiring
-TII-NA driveshaft
-PBM Coilovers
-jspec downpipe and magnaflow mufflers, will have a test pipe for cat delete
-Cheap racing seats
-kaaz 1.5 way diff for na rear end
-GP Sport super angle kit
I also have a GP sport duraflex body kit in my garage that I don't want to install til I paint it
So once all this is installed I was planning on using the money I had leftover on tires and track time, but now that I am ballin I kinda wanna make myself a better platform. I have many options and idk what is best so I wanted to get some input.
Some of my options:
-Cage
-Paint/body and wide fenders (but I know this is kinda unwise since I might eff it up in practice....
-Clutch/flywheel
-Better exhaust than the na exhaust w turbo parts...
-Cooling system (v-mount?)
I'm sure there's other stuff, but what do Ya'all think? I will start a build thread too as soon as I get some pics and start

The stock **** would run off the bat.
Haltech would require running wires for air temp, water temp, map, injectors, CAS and coils. Also gotta tune it. And an improperly tuned fuel map will blow your engine...

^ speaks the truth. keep it simple to drive, and save up for a TII Swap in the meantime. wait to run aero and all the extra "cool" **** until you have power. it will be more rewarding in the end.
honestly i'd keep an eye out for complete TII cars before buying a swap... it's cheaper and the result is better IMO.
i've done both. my TII has been running the longest with the same **** from my TII swap that kept blowing. bought my car for $2200. transferred parts. sold my NA for a lifted yukon to tow my car around. made bank.
i just bought another TII for an unbelievable amount. there are deals. you should have fun, and drive for little money, and look for a TII in the meantime.

Buy cool **** that makes the car feel more stable while drifting. The faster you can go the better. using 1st gear for anything other than starting and getting up to 15 mph sucks so teach yourself to drive in third without down or upshifting. If that doesn't work, try second only for a bit. I've never driven with TII power so i couldn't tell you if it's easier or not but i imagine fast spooling stock turbo boost would help a shitload staying in powerband with or without a clutch kick. Surprised nobody has ported the hotside of a stock turbo yet and retained the scroll flapper with a door that fits the new ported turbine inlet.
I love throttle response. When i hit the gas, i want the power to be there, not waiting for it. It's one more thing to focus on while your drifting and already have several different things going on in your head at once like how to set up for the next corner or compensating for a mistake trying to get away from the wall or clip in closer. I've spun due to dropping out of "powerband" more times than i can count and it sucks. If people were around for that they'd be laughing at me yelling at my car and calling myself names. Just do simple mods to the engine to make it feel as linear as you possibly can. Dont go broke doing it and invest in extra wheels/tires.
Stock ecu+aftermarket exhaust stuff means you may want to get a fuel cut defender. Our cars use fuel cut just like most. Fuel cut under boost.....e-freaking-specially on a rotary is just asking to pop some **** in a bad way. You could also get an aftermarket spark cut rev limiter and keep the limit shy of fuel cut.

^thanks for that. i bought a fuel cut defender as well, forgot to mention that, at the advice of jtp. still haven't gotten a chance to actually start taking my old engine out...gonna start tomorrow night.
I'm gonna use some of the money to get my rear end set up well with the rear camber and toe links, dtts elims, and diff and subframe bushings and a clutch like justin said
then PRACTICE!
