Im going for an n/a drift/daily rx7 and am in the middle of swaping 13b's (my change engine light came on) and i picked up a racing beat road race header, but now i have to run a two to one piece to retain the new cat back exhaust the previous owner just put on.
I have done a lil searching and found that where the header goes for two to one can effect the type of power/torque you gain from it. Im trying to keep the Y-pipe and mufflers the way they are just because they are new (under 8000mi old) but i dont know how far back i should run dual pipe before going into one to achieve the type of power i would need/want for a drift setup.
I am going to run w/o emissions or a cat (lewis co doesnt have emissions)
I know a lot of you guys are boosted or runing some v8,1j, 2j or w/e in the drift section but im not i wanna n/a for its reliability on the daily but also put the *** end out when i want.
anyones .02 is appreciated
and a pic for wasting your time! nvm the garbage in the back

I have a presilencer I can throw in if I have to and Im not to concerned with how loud it is. My buddys ae86 doesnt bother me too bad and its gutted with a pace setter header and about 18in of straight tubing for an exhaust system. AEs floors might as well be made out of a pop can too, with full interior in the RX7 I cant see it being too loud in the car.

well even if it is soooo loud
ill still have a stereo to tune it out and like i said i have a presilencer layin around... its just bulky and id rather not use it

and Buckey Im sorry, I try to bring humor onto my misfortune. I bought it not knowing I had a bad coolant seal, coolant got into my oil and I overheated but had to get it out of where it was... motor was toasted. When I filled it with coolant afterwards it drained out in between the front housing and center iron. Im still gunna tear down the old motor and check it out.

I actually have an apexi n1 sittin in my garage... thought about it but that apexi is huge and considering I have an all stock s4 body idk bout throwing fat single under there, looks ricey/tacky/unproportionate when i try to picture it.

It's so hard. I want to build a "mild" s13. I literally have to threaten myself with genital harm to not go overboard with overthinking my "want" list.
If you're na on stock ports, dont worry about shifting the torque curve too much with exhaust design. Obviously it being free-flowing is a good thing considering how strong exhaust pulse is in these engines. You know the usual breather mods. Intake, header, exhaust (secondary flapper removal in the tb). They help but you're not going to see super substantial gains.
Port work and tuning is where most of the power is made na.

Ok I figured this is what I would be looking at havin to do to really get power(lookin at runnin a streetport or mild bridge in a distant future).
What I have now...

Just bought the same RB RR header with a y pipe pipe. Thinking of running a straight pipe to the catback y pipe after the header y pipe. My main concern is how I am going to get the 5th and 6th ports to operate when there is no pick up to do so. There are a few options and I do not want to delete them, I want them to work at the right time too. I was thinking of fabbing up a custom split air pipe but I dont want to spend a lot of money to do so. I know of one way to get them to work properly and its Rotary Resurrections way the electric air pump coversion. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get my ports to work properly with the RB RR header that has no pick up tube for an s4?

You are only losing power under 4500rpm generally. If youre sliding an n/a fc under that rpm, you need to put away the donut spares or hit dry pavement instead of snowy parking lots. My n/a has the ports completely removed, and im getting 24mpg on the freeway between SLC, UT and Albuquerque, NM.
I remember reading a write up on wiring the ports to be open all the time and in that case you would be loosing low end power which the road race header already makes you lose some low end but gain a lot more top end. I was thinking of deleting mine but there is no point when I know there are ways to keep functioning right with just as much work required to delete them or wire them fully open. Dont think I am able to do the electric air pump conversion because it will just end up costing me more money and frustration then its worth. I think Im going to make a custom split air pipe for them to work. So rx7w/ya, did you use a block off plate on the ACV/check valve?

When I bought the engine it had the air pump removed and blocked off, egr blocked off, and something else but emissions were all removed but left the cold start. Score on my part thats what I was gunna do anyways.
I asked because I read on the Racing Beat site that you have to install a block off plate over the ACV/check valve when using the Road Race header. I was thinking of blocking off the EGR too but was unsure if there were any negative side effects of doing it.
Not blocking off the EGR valve because I read it makes the 86 models idle or run like **** unless someone can vouch otherwise? and is it easier to make a block off plate or buy it from Mazdatrix or RB?

do these things even make power? my NA had this same RB header, and if anything i thought it was slower and way louder... have there been any dyno results with these things? i seriously dont think my car gained 3hp and that thing was solid. the noise was totally not worth the hp gain if any cause i didnt notice anything.
