Question about a drifting issue

Hey everyone...the reason why I am making this thread is because I went to the track this weekend to a drift event. I have a 88 vert RX-7 and something I noticed out there in the track is that the car tends to understeer when I tend to drift around right hand corners. I shift lock to upset the balance but it doesnt upset the balance of the car and it understeers. But when I shift lock to take on left hand corners, it upsets the balance of the car perfectly and I start to initiate a drift. Some people told me its probably because of the VLSD but I would appreciate some feedback on the issue.

Verts don't have an LSD so I would buy a low mileage S4 GXL diff and swap it in. Do you have old shocks and springs? This issue could be caused by worn suspension.

Yea, bad lsd and crappy suspension won't help. Get yourself a decent setup and I'm sure you'll notice a rather large difference. I'm pretty sure with a old suspension and you sitting on the drivers side just makes it difficult when turning right because all the weight is shifting to the driver's side of the car. Putting a lot of force on that outside front tire and hardly any on the inside rear tire, which means no rear traction and no drifty for you. Lower it, get a good diff, and your good to go.

Yeah I believe the car still has the shocks and springs from factory but theyre still good. It doesnt bottom out when I drive it down a mountain pass near my town. I appreciate the feedback tho and I am looking around to get a TII rear end and swap it in.

take the vlsd apart and weld that sucka... Youl never break any stubshafts like nadiff... t2 stubs are thicker.. stay with that diff, just weld it..

Weld it if you want to kick that tail out nasty. Mess with your rear tire pressures, they have a lot to do with how quick you can slide your tail. Also, quit shift locking, that's not good on your drivetrain.

Ok I got one more question....what would be a better diff? a TII diff or a GTU diff? I know the TII diff gear ratio is 4.10 and the GTU diff gear ratio is 4.30. I'm just wondering what would be a better upgrade

Wow.......lol OK there is nothing wrong with using shift lock, if it is appropriate for the situation. I see almost all of you guys talking about using the Ebrake to initiate, now that is GAY.

Second you cannot Weld a VLSD......lol The vert has an open diff so yeah you can weld that.

Third...... if you shift lock and it understeers........haha I dunno even what to say, you are doing something wierd and what you are saying makes no sense at all. How can it understeer when only the rear tires are locked?

Well it only understeers when I shiftlock into righthand turn hairpins. When I do lefthand turn hairpins the tail kicks out real nice and it drifts. A friend of mine who drives a 240sx also drove the car and he came to the same problem and hes got way more experience than me when it comes to drifting.

Why did he say you cant weld a VLSD??? I hate these topics sometimes, everyone has their individual opinion's on what REALLY works. A little confusing I guess.

Im almost in the same boat. I have 1 NA open diff ( I want to weld) and a S5 T2 VLSD ( Id like to weld as well) Either way I go, it's drifty town for sure. Just checking.
