WI New to the drifting world

Hey guys I just got my 89 NA FC a few months back and decided I wanted to get into drifting. When I got my FC it was basically a bone stock rx7. So I threw coil overs and wheels on it, changed out the rusty exhaust, and started drifting. I'm starting to get the hang of it but setting up the suspension has always baffled me. Could any of you guys give me a good idea on a starting set up and I can tweak it from there? Thanks guys

My setup:

89 FC 13B Stock
Racing beat header back
Stance Super Sport 15 way adjustable coil overs
Dtss Delete bushings
Welded diff
MB battles 17x9 with stretched tires
No working e-brake

Again not heavily modded at all. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

you need an ebrake! thats where the fun starts.
i have some stock ones if you need anything just holler.

Try adjusting yours and see what happens.

Make sure the ebrake part of the calliper actually moves freely! If it sits for a period of time without use it usually craps its self!

up the air pressure in the rear tires. fix ebrake. move coilovers to as stiff as possible in the rear. then just shred as much as you can. youll figure out how to setup the suspension as you go. more seat time is more important. also keep it n/a. forever.

edit, just looked at the pictures. camber the front coilovers in as much as you can. looks like you have positive camber now. you want negative up front.

It's as negative in the front as it can go without changing to s4 control arms and extended ball joints.

Get knuckles ASAP. Then get a handbrake The stock handbrake handle will split apart on you and eat your cable. How I fixed mine was drill a bunch of holes and weld in these holes to hold it in place. Then installed a new cable. You'll find that the stock ebrake will have a hard time locking at times. I got a hydro and never looked back. (PBM hydro installs easy and works like a dream)

Get solid diff mounts as soon as possible. (suspension can be done later but diff will start being an issue when the diff mounts go pooft)

Since your n/a you'll want rear camber and higher rear tire pressures. Run tires around 195 and 205 width for best results. I used to run 60psi dry and 30psi wet. (Now with better rear final drive I run 40-30psi)

In the beginning you'll want your setup neutral until you get more time behind the wheel and get preferences for whatever driving style. So keep your sways stock or upgraded, but dont remove one and not the other or only upgrade one. Keep the tire sizes roughly the same front to back and dont get overly sticky tires in the front.

Alignment front: 0 toe (or slight toe in), 2-4deg of camber front. Caster should be 4-5deg and cant be adjusted factory.

Alignment rear .50 deg toe out (or 0 toe). Everyhting else will be w/e you get. Prolly 2-4deg rear camber due to lowering.

Coilovers, keep stiff front and back. Keep both front and back the same until you get a lot of seat time. Will make the car more predictable.

You already have everything else pretty much dialed. Get a shorter final drive if possible. I was able to find a 4.77 from a KIA sportage 4x4 (front diff) and got Mazdatrix to modify it to work with the FC front pinion/mace. Its made night and day difference in the car. Mazdatrix now sells the R&P i think for 1000$? (I got it for a lot cheaper by sourcing used parts)

Get lots of seat time. Practice > whatever you do to your car

Hydro ebrake- I was actually looking into installing it just for the simplicity of the system.
Diff mounts- I'll definitely look into picking up a set of solids
Tires- I'm already running 60 psi in the rears

did your coilovers not come with adjustable top hats? spin them around until you can squeeze more camber out of them.
