Hatch on, Hatch off

It is now getting closer to summer, I've been contemplating the overall pros and cons about running hatchless as well as various "truck" conversions. I want to discuss the matter for all seasons as well. I recall browsing before and seeing some bad conversions, and odd things like running hatchless in the rain, etc.

I'd like to hear your opinions and arguments.

Somethings I'm interested in:
  • Hatchless with a 6 point (or more) roll cage vs. Hatchless with no cage
  • Hatch's effect on the cars balance
  • Pro's and con's of a good "truck" conversion
  • FRP and Carbon hatches vs. complete removal

If this thread is out of line, please feel free to delete it.

in what?

either way, taking the hatch off your car is about as rice as you can get.. unless youre taking the doors, fenders, hood and bumpers off too.

yes hatch glass is heavy and hatches dont really provide structure to the vehicle but **** looks pretty retarded. also without the cabin being sealed off from the exhaust, it will roll back into your car and make you sick.. or at least stink. tire smoke will roll back in as well but thats more bearable.

truck conversions are hit and miss. earls is cool. that drift union guys is ugly but its also just a cheap hatch replacement thing.

so i ask. what is your goal?

I make a FRP hatch w/polycarbonate installed that weighs about 15lbs if that helps. Looks totally stock and can attach a few different ways depending on the application. PM me if you're interested.

if you want a truck buy an S13 hatch.

Drift Union dudes car looks worse than a fat bag of dicks. i don't even like thinking about it, its so terrible....

Earls was way better, but still a truck..

I was just wondering about it in related to drifting, but I think your reply Steven (and Buckey) is good enough for me. It explains why you don't see so many people doing that kind of thing...

I guess the small bit of weight you might save is not worth all the other things that will come with it. I did photoshop out my hatch so I didn't have to physically take it off, it was indeed pretty awkward...

I think a mild bag of dicks is more appropriate. Its not completely terrible.

I like the drift union car. Then again i like just about everything most people hate. 40's, ******* fat chicks, driving a car that's ugly as **** not caring what anyone thinks, thinking up retarded ideas i think are fun.

Go hatchless and throw a cage in. Just snag some sheet metal and a truck window and you're good! Just make sure you can access your fuel pump, struts and lights/wiring. Dont ask for opinions on things you think are cool. Just do them.

hatch= a whole lot of glass to clean up...

They are heavy but strong, this is before the final touch of death that took my hatch away.

Now that I dont have a hatch I have to wrap the back end in plastic wrap after using it to keep rain and critters out.

I did notice the car was a bit perkier after losing all that weight.
