1st rebuild
SoI have had my car for a while now. The first build went perfect, but after a few hours on the dyno the apex seals warped. I then rebuilt it for the second time with a local builder and then took it to PFsupercars to dyno it again. On the last run the car made 421hp at 16psi, but did the same thing. The cause of the problem we think was not enough fuel out put from a supra tt pump. That is going to be changed.
I am now going to build this one myself. Im very capable and feel comforable taking the engine apart. I ordered RA super seals 3mm and a HD pinneapple gasket set. What else would I need to buy in order to rebuild my engine.
BACK GRound on engine:
Streetported
exhaust port modded
oil mods
cooling mods
Mazda 3mm apex seals
balanced rotors
new rear housing.
CLiff notes:
rebuilding engine because warpped seals.
Just bought RA superseals and Gasket seat
WHAT ELSE SHOULD I BUY.
Season opener in at the end of this month and I want to start drifting.
thank you,
DAnny

Sad to hear the FD went. You still working on the LS swap FD also?

The first time this motor was build it received a 3mm job and the rotors where weight. Some shop in cali did the fitment. The pump that was in the car at the time of the pulls was a supraTT pump. It is rated some where in the high 400's at the engine. The car put down 421 @ 16 pounds. I have built pleanty of motors in the past "piston" and now Im getting into rebuilding my own rotary drift car. The LS1 fd is on hold til next season.
I just need to know what else I should be buying in order to put this motor back together. The motor has at most 2K miles, so it should be pretty fresh and clean. An A.I. kit is definetly going to be installed and also 2 fuel pumps. The car never showed lean on the dyno, but we suspec that the seals warped because they werent being cooled down. I was also running stock OMP and premixing. We also added 100 oct to the pulls to keep it safe.
What do you all think?

Where are you getting your Water temps from in your system and what ecu are you running? And have you considered a surge tank? I feel is a great idea for drifting. Another question egt gauges. Egts would really help. Is this a short runner manifold?

You can look into the water jacket mod as well as cooling with plain distilled water (with additives ofcourse) instead of the standard 50/50 ****......
Do you premix or just run the standard omp?
Premixing will cool the apex seals as well as oil them properly. I've looked at used housings that premixed through the life of them and used housings that just used factory omp and the premix housings looked a hell of alot better.
+1 for aux injection.

PM me
Water temps are being read with stock gauge. POWER FC, Im modding the OEM gas tank to prevent starvation while going sideways. I dont have EGT's. Im using the greddy manifold.
I just ran regular water with the coolant. Car never over heated. Im using the omp and premixing.
Im gonna start pulling the engine apart tomorrow.

upgrade to a bosch 044 motorsports pump
on my old car when i was making 400 hp, i had a crazy fuel setup. sumped tank, sx huge external pump and full ss lines from the tanks to the rails. went that route because we had planned on making 500 to 600hp but that never happened.
it is always better to have way more fuel than you need but i dont suggest going that overkill.
you still running a stock trans ? not gonna last long drifting with 400hp

So today I tried to get my KA24de in the 240, but im missing a passenger side motor mount....AAAHHHHHH! So I said **** the 240 and started working on the 7 after sitting for a whole year. I got the motor out of the car and tore it apart. This is my first rotary rebuild and i feel 100% confident on the rebuild. Its already 10x easier than rebuilding an SR...lol . Tomorrow i will clean it and fix the port job I got from a local rx7 builder. I was a little suspec on what kind of porting i got. The inside of the ports look good, but the shape of the large street port looks iffy. i will be fixing this in the next few days. I already ordered RA super 3mm apex seals and pineapple racing heavy duty gasket set. After the initial tear down we suspected to had warped seals after a long session on the dyno at PFsupercars. The car sounded like it lost compression, but it still made 421hp @ 16psi. Well that wasnt the case. One of the apex seals actually broke at the corner and it didnt tear the engine to pieces. I drove it like that for a good month and 2 events.....What a dummy!!!
the first session at PF. This dyno session left the engine with warpped apex seals, but I still drove it for about 4 months.

This was after the second rebuild with low compression and a suspec apex seal failure:

Second time ever drifting this 420hp horse with no powersteering, a t78, and lack of skills.

421hp out of a 1.3l...lol
A little heat to get the 54mm nut lose.
Rotary **** about to happen
streetport looks a little suspec
The culprit.....apex seal is broken and it didnt crumble into a million pieces.
And there you go. Took a rotary apart in less than a day.

Ill take pictures of the rest of the ports tomorrow. I put the pineapple racing medium streetport template against these ports and they where not even close. I know different builders do things their own way and Im not here to bash the guy that built mine. I do suspect that the ports have been extented to far up. I will check all this tomorrow. Can someone post a pic of a good streetport. Im a noob to this rebuild and i want to make sure its done correctly. Also what is the limit to how far up the port can be cut?

I tried my hands on a little porting today. I stopped by harbor freight to pick up some sanding tools. I also found carbide bit a true value hardware store for a decent price.
the old port vs. the new port.
How it sits!!!! eewww
The garage.
waiting on a standalone and a tune......razmus car that I helped build!!!!
