DGRR Car Show Issues

Before I began, I would like to apologize for the way car show was handled.

I have had several people not quite satisfied with the way the car show was handled and for the next year, it will be handled in the following manner.

1. Judges will go through a training on how to judge a car show
2. Car show will be judged in following area using point scoring system.

EXTERIOR BODY – 20 pts
Cleanliness 1 – 5 pts
Modifications 1 – 10 pts
Paint and Graphics 1 – 5 pts

ENGINE – 20 pts
Cleanliness 1 – 5 pts
Modifications 1 – 10 pts
Paint/powdercoating/polishing 1 – 5

UNDERCARRIAGE – 10 pts
Cleanliness 1 – 5 pts
Suspensions/stance 1 – 5pts

WHEELS – 15 pts
Cleanliness 1 – 5 pts
Appearance/Size 1 – 10 pts

INTERIOR – 15 pts
Cleanliness 1 – 5 pts
Entertainment 1 – 5 pts
Special Features 1 – 5 pts

OVERALL APPEARANCE – 20 pts
1 – 20 pts

TOTAL = 100 pts
*Show car form will be given out at the registration and it must be on your car*
**Top 5 cars from each categories will be judged again by different judge(s)**
***In case of tie(s), following category score will be looked at to determine the winner - 1. Overall Appearance. If tied: 2. Total Exterior Body Score. After that, 3. Engine total score... and then 4. Interior.***

3. New categories will be created when more than 10 cars are present (example if 10 or more 20B cars are signed up by a month before the event)

4. New categories such "Best Engine Bay", "Best Exterior Mods", "Best Stance", and "Best Stock" will be created.

5. Best of show winner can not win 2 consecutive years as Best of Show nor qualified to win 1st place. 1st place winner can win 1st place and Best of Show following year. Also Best of the show winner will be asked to be a judge following year.

6. Parking issues will be resolved.. I know parking was a mess because of the location and people not moving their cars.. A night before, we will make sure people who's parking in the lot will move next morning by 8:30.. If you can't wake up by then, we will ask you to park across the lot. Since people don't take these things serious without penalty, If your car is not moved by 9AM, I will call a tow service and get the car towed at your expense. NVNC is a private lot and early warning is given when signed up, and at the lodge when you check in. Also, if not moved, we will find out who you were and you will be banned for DGRR the following year.

These are just few steps in which we will take so the event goes smoother next year.

Again, I apologize for the way the car show portion went and how the outcome came about...

Phil

Phil, DGRR is an amazing event, and you do a good job under trying circumstances every year. Unless you've tried to run an event, it's hard to appreciate all the behind the scenes work. Keep up the good work man

I have this to say about the car show this year:

I honestly didn't expect to win because of all the amazing cars in the running. I've reached out to quite a few guys who didn't win this past year and had kickass cars. There were so many top-notch cars, we needed about a dozen trophies, no joke. Thanks to all those who congratulated me. I really appreciate my true friends.

To those who have basically ruined the experience for me by being petty and egotistical: I'm extremely disappointed, and it makes me sad that the community can be this weak. I don't need any of this negativity in my life, so do me a favor and stay out of it.

On a positive note, what's DGRR really about? To me it's about the driving, being with friends, and helping each other out when we have problems---the car show comes in a distant last.

I missed the event this year but I love the fact that your car won! You actually track and drive your fd for what it was intended. When I judge a show that is a huge factor for me, a true show car is just wasted money and time. Wish I would have made the event and congrats on the win!

Phil, sorry that I missed it but I highly doubt there is any need for you to apologize. Car guys have egos and just get upset when they dont win. Keep putting on a good event like you have in the past, I think the number of attendees speak about the quality of the meet.

I have to agree with both Goodfellas

" what's DGRR really about? To me it's about the driving, being with friends, and helping each other out when we have problems---the car show comes in a distant last. "

and djseven...

To start rich won fair and square for the best of the show. At the end that determination was made by the guys at the modified magazine and they picked rich's car.

On the other note, I made several mistakes and I have already admitted to those who saw the issues and approached me. I'm not going to go into details but I admit the fault and take responsibility as an organizer. Next year I think pOint system will resolve most of the issues and several other categories will satisfy some of the cars that deserves to win but didn't.

Again, I apologize for this issues and hope people will understand and not boycott the event... Ultimately it's about rotary community coming together and seeing various awesome rotary cars in action... It's my fault that I didn't take this more serious before...

There was a car show?

Phil this was my first time at DGRR, but i've been to plenty of others. This was the smoothest I've ever seen and event of this size or any for that matter run. No apologies are needed as far as I'm concerned. You can't make everyone happy all the time, but i was happier than flies on **** all weekend.

Keep up the good work. I know I'll be coming back for years to come.

I had a great time.
Great event and I finally got to meet the Ancient One.
Phil thanks for everything you have done.

The new scoring system is a big plus as well.

hey phil, things get better every year... and i will publically admit, I was someone who talked with you about the judging of the car show. I do know how difficult it can be a judge of anything, I have done it many times when i was active in Taekwondo, both for tournaments and testings/permotions.

and I do like the idea of the points system... hopefully it will help mediate some issues...

Look forward to next year's event...

Hopefully Rules and new point systems will eliminate any questioning of the show next year.. And having other categories should help also.

I am also going to add, Best Track Car

I apologize for not doing this earlier and we are going to take few things bit more serious so we all can feel things are done in a professional manner.

Again, Hope those of you not quite satisfied with the show will understand where we are coming from and continue to attend DGRR 2011. I am all about learning and correcting mistakes!

Phil

How is people's choice award voted on?
Should all registered attendees get a ticket to cast their vote for the car they like best or...?

Nah Phil, we all do the best with what we have. I'm sure we all appreciate everything you have done to put the event together. Its nice to be able to have a car show in the first place but I honestly wouldn't care if you didn't. Its great that you are taking the initiative to try and make the judging better but I feel like you don't owe anyone an apology. Whatever happened I hope it doesn't discourage you from organizing more events. Thanks for organizing an awesome event.

If we didn't have a car show we would all just be driving the gap...its a win win for attendees...we'll make it that way for Phil too. My personal goal is to have him drive the gap next year.

phil drive the gap during DGRR?!?!? that's a mythical event!!! it might mark the end of the world if it happens again...

maybe if we grab him, throw him in a car and then drive out there... we get to the gas station and force him to drive across the gap...

with so many categories why dont you add a prize to each car? seriously.

personal experience from last year, you dont need to make it a competition.
No matter how fair and square the results will be theres always going to be that special someone to complain about his car is better than the one in the competition and other complaints like the competition was not handled properly or the judges have poor taste OR WHATEVER

cheeseball...lol

It would be cool if everyone just showed up to drive and hang out...no show, no banquet, no organized skyway drive (though that was awesome for me being a first timer). How lucky are you guys that live close that you can just say "Deals Gap Meet this weekend!" or "photoshoot at the gap!"

Florida roads are boring....

sorry ....getting off topic.
