Why do thread in this forum section archive so quickly?

It seems counter productive to have comments and suggestions threads archive as quickly as they do. Archiving them makes them less visible.

If the threads were here a little longer it may actually stimulant discussion that would be beneficial to the community, which may result in positive changes. I am assuming that this was the intention of the section in the first place.

If someone posts in the archived threads do they re-emerge on the main section? I have never tried it but it would make sense especially since many of them are less than a month or two old.

Anyhow just my thoughts, hopefully they don't archive before someone else gets an opportunity to comment.

Tell me about it. MY thread was gone in less than 48 hours if I'm not mistaken.

Chances are it is actually not archived yet, but rather your display default for this section is set at show threads of the last day, rather than the last month.

Change the sections display for you and I bet you find your "archived" threads.

I didn't change any of my settings since I don't even know how. I have reviewed the display mode settings but non of my options indicate the ability to change the date range of threads that are viewed. Do you mind directing me on how to change it if that is in fact the problem?

It is called Display Options. Just play with the options, you should be able to figure it out. Also, I am sure DKJ archives and closes alot of the threads to prevent people from posting up useless junk like "+1" and "I agree, can we change this". It is much easier to work with threads this way, than having them open for the rest of the forum to post in.

Also, when you change it, it will automatically go back to the default for the forum.

Thanks I found it. It is under User CP/edit options/thread display options/default thread age cut-off, for anyone else having the same issue. I was right that I hadn't changed anything since I was set to the forum default. I switched to show all threads and I have a healthy list of threads. I switched back to default and I have two showing.

Why would the default for this section be so low?

I guess every user can change the settings to show more threads but the default seems really low for this section.

I agree there can be alot of useless posts in any section but you can't get the good ones either if there is no time to respond/view etc.

It's a section for comments and suggestions. You don't post unless you have a problem or a suggestion. And some just PM a Mod/Admin sometimes instead of posting in here.

I agree sometimes, but I am using a biased fact here, considering the section I moderate, it's alot of senseless posts and it's "irritating" to say the least to shift through alot posts to find the people causing trouble. But it's not bad that they are posting, post away, I can just delete it

Glad I could help ya out. About the whole default for this section, not sure. Sure it's been like that for a while.

Actually I remember it happening a couple of months ago when there was some actual activity in here. I was watching and posting in a thread in this section and then the defaults changed.

Actually the below thread is the one I was watching. So I guess it happened around the last post in that thread since it just disappeared and I didn't know how to find it at the time.
