Accountability for post edit/removal, closures, bannings
Previously suggested here, received lots of support, but was 'swept under the rug" so to speak after the mods turned the conversation toward SNTP for some reason and totally ignored the rest of the discussion. Way to step up there, guys.

I am getting tired of seeing threads closed and people banned with no warning, no reason, not even a way to know which mod took the action. I think they should be a bit more responsible for what they do.
I suggest that anytime a mod closes a thread or deletes certain posts from a thread, that somewhere in or attatched to that thread be an explanation "closed by XXX mod, reason XXX" etc. and the same thing for bans "banned by XXX because XXX".
The current system has stuff getting closed or deleted and people getting banned without any explanation at all. This just leads to more confusion and several more "what happened to the XXX thread" or "why did XXX get banned" threads.
Another thread in GG/BG with important discussions and details was deleted by an unknown mod for unknown reason with no explanation given. Not only that, but the thread was not really bad or anything, there was some small amount of petty bickering but nothing major enough to merit a total deletion.
I'd like to see some ACCOUNTABILITY here.

No, I have never been banned, and none of my threads have been closed. But, I have had posts deleted, and more importantly have seen other useful/important threads/posts be locked or removed without a real cause.
Recently a mod removed my posts (and several other users') from a thread without (what i felt was) just cause. The forum rules seem to indicate that publicly QUESTIONING the motives of a mod would lead to further action, so the discussion was taken up with the mod via PM. I was told that he could edit or remove whatever he wanted and he didnt have to explain a damn thing to me or anyone else, and that furthermore he could go anywhere on the forum and delete anything of mine that he wanted and there isn't a damn thing I can do about it, and if any of the other mods have a problem with that they can take it up with him.
Note that I made this exact same thread several months ago before this happened, though...my stance has not changed.
Ryan apparently sold the forum. Hopefully someone new will have the run of the place and get their **** together around here.

Back to the top for someone to lock/delete without answering.
Here's one of the latest examples of mass confusion resulting from cowardly mods editing without accountability...

Another day, another thread I was a participant in gets closed and several posts removed with no accountability or statement as to why. Certain mods cannot win a debate on their own merits so they resort to their uber moderator status to handle their business and sweep it under the rug. It sucks *** to make valid points in an effort to effect an improvement only to have it erased.

The first thread relating to the avatar/sig was edited to remove NSFW content that was against the forum rules. It would have been nice for the moderator to somehow make note of this, but it was done outside the thread and in the user profile. I'm sure the user was informed why his information was edited. The side effect was that the thread no longer made sense.
No idea on the 2nd one.
This varies from mod to mod, but in general I try to make a note as to why a thread was closed unless it is bleedingly obvious. If a thread becomes a multi-page flame war, then a simple "We're done" at the closure is generally sufficient. But if it's less obvious (ie. a question asked 10,000 times a week like "How do I turbo my NA?") then I'll either make a note why it was closed, or post the section of the FAQ that answers the question.
Post deletions are a bit harder. When a post is deleted, a moderator supplies a reason but that's only visible to other moderators. Posting in a thread that a post was deleted is often just the opposite of what a mod is trying to accomplish by deleting posts. It clutters the thread. I'll delete a tonne of posts during a normal days surfing. Some break the rules outright. If it's bad enough, the user gets a warning. If it's a simple violation, I just delete the post. If there are multiple such posts in a thread, generally I leave a note in the thread that it was altered.
There are also a load of posts that get deleted just because they don't contribute. Bumps, "+1s", posts containing only a smiley, posts totally off topic to the thread and personal conversations all fall into those categories. Generally I just hose those without leaving a reason, and for the most part no one seems to care (less then 3 times has someone ever mentioned it in public or via PM). I'd never delete any posts that contribute to the thread. The type of thread also dictates whether I do something like this. If it's a technical thread, then irrelevant stuff is more likely to be removed. If it's a project thread, then it's likely going to stay.
Bannings are handled in a number of ways, but the most common is to supply the banned use a reason why they are banned. vBulliten provides a method for this and that message is shown to the banned use when they try to log in.

In regards to the thread in question the OP appears to requested it be closed.
See below:
Apparently, the OP requested it be closed and it got closed.

Nice to see you're taking the high road on this one Ryan. Your political skills seem to be about on par with your business sense. You know the opposition is beaten when they can say nothing relevant to the issues, but just call you names.
