Issues for us Mods to discuss, post them here

Keep this thread ON TOPIC, no back and forth banter or complaining.

Plain and simple, if you have an issue with how things are being run these days spell it out here with specifics. Post links to examples if possible.

I'm setting up an online conf call for us Mods to hash out these issues for Sunday afternoon. Post your thoughts before then, but do it in a clear and concise way or it won't be addressed.

If somebody else has already posted your concern, don't repost it. Keep this thread clean so it's useful.

I'd say that'll be one of the first issues we address. It's a huge problem right now, and I promise to make it easy for individuals to sell parts, like it should be.

Ryan-

Could you all discuss the following:

Taken from FAQ
- No Dealers in the classified sections. A dealer is defined as anyone who is selling more than 2 of the same product, or who repeatedly has items for sale.

Define a "dealer/vendor" more specifically i.e. number of transactions monthly/yearly or atleast a finite cutoff.

Also some dialogue on a sub-forum with classifieds for "small time" sellers that may include:
-feedback/rating system
-flat rate for sales (with respect to volume)
-possibly even a flat rate for buyers (maybe $20-$50 yearly?)

Thanks-

Shawn

what is the proper procedure for a ban?

My understanding is:

first offense = warning in PM
second offense = warning in thread/ post edited or deleted
3rd offense = ban

Can you make sure proper procedure IS being followed and that bans aren't handed out capriciously?

Are these offenses cummulative? If I received a warning (red icon) months ago, does that count towards the first/second/third ban?

My understanding is that a BAN can be questioned by emailing an admin yet the "contact us" link no longer works when banned so there is no actual manner to discuss whether the ban was necessary or not or to at least figure out real reasons for the ban.

I'd like a real answer regarding what IS and what ISN'T an "Indirect Insult" since pretty much everything I say is indirectly insulting to someone, somewhere at any time.

Reasonable [i.e. lower] charges for people who sell a moderate amount of parts, and cannot reasonably be making much profit from them, or give away parts.

Thank you for starting this thread

How about overzealous moving of threads or not having a poll as to where certain stick'd threads should remain or be moved to? My case is as follows:

The Race Parts thread has been located under Race Car Tech for as long as I can remember. It is the main forum for rotary motorsports inquiries and information. Recently the Parts thread was moved to the Drag Racing sub-forum within the tech forum. We don't all go there, most of us typically arrive at the main forum first before selecting a sub-forum, and the majority of items for sale in there are not drag application related!!!

Also since it has been moved it has seen a gigantic decrease in posts. Since it has been moved there have been what three or four posts? Come on. Move it back to where it will receive the attention and use it deserves or place it under it's own classifieds title. Someone commented that we should be using the classifieds for these items anyways, nonsense.

Race parts are sought after by a niche group and are rare. If I am looking for a dry sump front cover I'm going to look in every classifieds forum i.e. SE or whichever. Please move it back... and feel free to make me a Mod in the race section.

that's because you're being a retard and can't follow simple instructions. THE FIRST LINE READ: KEEP THIS THREAD ON TOPIC.

I asked for your post to be removed because it doesn't belong here. I'm just as upset as YOU about not receiving my subscription but I got over it and don't dwell on the 30 bux I lost. Get over it. Your post does not belong in this thread period. I cannot explain it any better than that.

I think my biggest concern is what is going on in the FS section. Many of the veteran members who I have been purchasing from because of there reliability are being run off. I just find it obsurd that one day after all these years we get this enforcement from the grey area of the rules. It's not even like there was some sort of heads up like "effective (insert date here) we will be strictly enforcing this rule because...ect". It really comes down to the fact that this sudden strong arming is completly uncalled for. If IB wants to capitalize off of people selling in there backyard, there should be some sort of resonable resolution put in place before the drastic measures take effect.

My other problem is threads being locked for no reason. I think the one that really stood out to me was
https://www.rx7club.com/comments-suggestions-archive-222/selling-privileges-729141/ which was covering the exact topic i stated in my first conern. There were no ruled being broken and it was still on topic. But ultimatly it appeared the Moderator did not like the way the conversation was headed so he locked it.

I'd like a feedback system placed on members - similar to supraforums where you get seller/trader ratings. This would suck for a lot of the members who are already established - but it's a great idea to weed out more scams.

The rating is placed below your avatar and can link you to a history of transactions with other members (think ebay).

Examples from my Supraforums account here:

Follow the guidelines I posted at the beginning or expect your post to be deleted.

My input for the members to start following, if you're asked by a Mod/Admin to do something, do it. Don't intentionally NOT follow their instruction and then bitch when action is taken against your account.

*** Ninja-addition-edit *** Guys, if your post is removed don't post again saying "sorry I thought it was on topic". Use some deductive reasoning, if it was removed once that should be a clue it was judged as off-topic.

I feel that this thread aside, there has been a lot of "this needs to be done" with out really asking us, the members.
I see so many moderators "warning" members for making comments about the way the site is run, charges, rules, ect, reguardless of truth, a forum is about the free exchange of ideas. We're allowed to bash the government in the usa, heck its becoming an art form. the only times rules like this are inforced are in dictatorships.
I think that to a large extent, the entire view of IB has been the $$$, not improvement to the site. they want this to be some sort of kiddie safe forum, its a car club, populated by "mostly" mature individuals, who should be at a point in life to take a joke.

so in conclusion I dont have a real "point" so to speak, just that there needs to be more done to help the interest of the site, not the people profiting off it.

plus I'd really like to see some one from IB drop a line to us, I really dont like the Anonymous big brother feel we have going. The mods go "its not us, we just inforce the rules" Well whose in charge then? why was the first thing they did after aquiring the forum not getting in touch with the members?

thats about it really.

They did get in touch but I don't think the thread went anywhere besides "we're here." We were promised that everything would continue as it was and we would not notice a difference. Where are we today?

We can't blame Boosted7 for doing what any sane person would do. Make a profit and continue his life but we CAN blame the new owners for coming in here and trying to change the status-quo, establishing what THEY had planned all along and then send out enforcers to those that question it or don't fall 100% into the categories established for us. I'm being myself and I don't fit into any category (well, I'm sure you MODS have a category for me).

Please look up the definition for moderator and tell me that it still applies to those who enforce the rules here.

I am in no way a dealer. For gods sake, I have a fulltime job. Often, I go to the wrecker and pull the same parts to sell on the forum here so I can get a few bucks for my car. Again, I have no Rotary business what so ever. How does this affect me?

I know it said, no direct ebay links. Does that allow me to post me Ebay name for them to type into ebay and then hit my auction?

I think the biggest problem with this site, is people making crap up. People just posting out and out lies and made up crap.

That should be a banning offense. Banning people that make crap up should be on the mod discussion list.

I'll probably also bring up that people don't want to advertise over multiple forums, when you call or email IB about advertising. Lets face it, most of the people that would advertise for RX-7 parts wouldn't want to advertise on the corvette board, so there should be prices and packages accordingly.

Question to be brought up at the meeting:

How do the administrators keep tabs on overzealous/capricious moderators?

Do mods have to be treated differently? Are we not allowed to express how we feel if we believe they are wrong? Should we consider them dieties that cannot be talked back to without fear of being smoten.

Is a comment MORE offensive when said to a mod than if i said it to joe schmoe?

Is there a complaint link where we file reasonable complaints. None of the "he's being mean to me" or "he banned me because I'm being an *******." I'm talking about real complaints.

I have nothing against mods, really, I don't. You may not think so but it's true. I have a problem in the way some of you have taken the role of moderator, enforcer and noob nurturer/enabler. You're here to make sure things don't get out of hand, and I admit I'm part of the problem, not protect those who don't bother to learn on their own and penalize those whose methods you don't agree with.

Who is to blame? The ******** that don't like seeing the same content asked over and over on a daily basis? or the moderators than don't take the initiative to nip reposts before they make it 5 minutes. My reprimands suggestion in the "suggestions section " still stands even if you don't think it's right. It's better than what is currently being done (allow the same stuff to be reposted daily and either go unanswered or get bitched out for showing absolutely no initiative towards bettering themselves.

1. MODS having Signature that violate forum rules: ICEMARK: However I see it is removed now
2. MODS doubletalking around issues instead of providing a direct answer
3. INSANE Advertising rates by IB. I posted my specific example in the comments section: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=734377
4. Recognition/Reimbursement of people who supported the "server upgrade" plea for funds a couple years back. It was our donations that made a server upgrade possible; which in turm allowed the site to grow; which lead to it being attractive to purchase by Internet Brands. Many of those people are the same small vendors you are trying so hard to drive away.
5. A Public apology to all subscribers of RX7Tuner who were defrauded of their subscription fees.

Please provide a direct answer to each of those 5 issues above.

Seems to be a lot of crackdown lately - when it concerns making profits. But what about all the rules that exist about not abusing or offending other members; seems those rules don't matter at all.

If you are going to make rules, they should be enforced equally. Otherwise, just say "yes, this is a free for all" and we don't care who is offended as long as we are making money.

Mods, can we do something about the influx of noobs who talk down on arguably nice cars because they aren't an FC? Also, bringing back the members only, 100 post limited lounge would work as well.
