While I agree that the Fab forum is a good idea I don't exactly share your disdain for the NA section.
The NA section while only having 100+ threads has nearly 2000 posts. Compares favorably to Aux Injection with 267 posts in all of 20 months of existance and less than 4,000 posts. So , are you calling for its dismissal as well?

-- FWIW - Love it or hate it, the new drifting forum was one of the most requested new forums. It is also about 4 months old and it's has even lower numbers than the poor NA forum. I do you suppose we should terminate it as well?

Although, I suppose there are at least a dozen or more "project/DIY" threads in each generation section.
.. You know I bet there are DIY/Fab threads all over this forum, in nearly every section so by your own logic the DIY/Fab forum itself would be redundant as well.
Right?

In the same sense, why is there a single turbo forum? Would not a more appropriate name be "Performance Turbo" since ALL 2nd gens were single turbo from the factory?
The tubing is 304, the wire is 308 .025 and 75/25 gas.... it's a turbo manifold so the tubing is pretty close, I can't cut that good so there might be a little gap here and there.
I've got a 110 Lincoln Gas Mig. There's noway I can afford a TIG right now, so I need to do with what I have.

When welding be sure bevel the tips so you have a V shape to fill. Like I said get some throw away pieces, play with the feed and amperage settings. You want good penetration, but not too much where you get nasty blow through. And if you do, be sure you can grind that **** smooth on the inside.

There's part of your problem, 110 is only good for small ****. Stainless tubing that's anything thicker than 0.063" wall will require 230 three phase. Especially if you want to get any quality welds.

13B-RX3 setup his 4 link with a 110V, and his looked real nice. I was just told that the 110v will be plenty for tubing and small stuff.
This is 13B-RX3's car

Also, if you're welding thicker material you should chamfer the edges to help with penetration.
P.S. WHERE IS THE NEW FORUM?!?

I think we really need this forum, i know i would post in it often wether its a look what i made or what welder should i buy (i am shopping for a 220 tig setup to do aluminum and stainless, foot control, etc 2k'ish budget aslong as i can finance it)
I didn't have 220 in the garage, and couldn't talk the WIDE into "LETTING" me pay someone to run it out there. Yes, I know I know. So, I had to get the 110v.

I don't know, maybe I'm just biased, ever since I started to do TIG, 110 MIG just didn't cut it anymore. Don't get me wrong you can weld with a 110 MIG, I just wouldn't trust it in a long term fashion.
Is the DIY Forum section up now?
How about Now?

((keep posting crap this that ^^^ and the section will never happen.))
Right now the discussion has moved away from the creation of the section and towards it's overall relevance to the site.
Many of the mods who have weighed in on the subject see the creation of the section redundant. Threads for fabrication typically are going to be devoted to a particular type of vehicle... perhaps one that we might already have a section for elsewhere in the forum. Most mods think that these fabrication threads should be located within the proper generational section.
Hope is not dead, but there haven't been many actual reasons (only a couple in this thread) presented to create the section. Pretty much other than a few people who think it is a "good idea" there isn't much of a reason to move forward. With only a scant few positive reasons and a few notable negative reasons the sections fate remains in limbo for now.
Despite this, we are still looking for a way to address this need and have not shelved the idea at this time. Thanks for your patience (or lack of in some cases
)

But the NA forum is redundant in it's information as there are two other generational forums that deal with NA stuff. In my mind, that's the difference between it and the other low traffic forums.
Kill the drifting forum. Drifting needs to die, and every bit helps.
That's the one thing I'm wondering about with the DIY forum. Will threads from other forums now be moved over? And how does one decide on which threads to move? Splitting the fab forum into generations would be a bad idea. Too much redundancy. Maybe each generational forum needs Fab/DIY subforum...
In the same sense, why is there a single turbo forum? Would not a more appropriate name be "Performance Turbo" since ALL 2nd gens were single turbo from the factory?

I still think fabrication should be done as a general section, because ideas for fabrication, as well as tips and tricks, are not necessarily vehicle-specific.
yes, lets see this made. I have a couple ideas i would like to share that might help a few people out. And i'm always lookin for cool new ideas that i can apply to my car.
+1 for Fab Tech

Now if someone just wants to show off their fab skills, how is that any different than any other "building my car thread"??? What is a fabrication section going to offer the members on this board that they don't already have?

and drifting isn't? How is drifting rotary specific? it takes no power and any drunk hillbilly could get behind the wheel and light the tires on fire
"welding" is that all you see it as? have you fabbed much on your rotary?
I kind of figured the "bolt on performance" mods would shoot this down
Drifting was put in to give drifters a logical place to put their threads instead of thread crapping in the race car tech or race techniques section, since both drifters and racers were not happy with the previous setup.
I don't really see that many complaints regarding thread crapping and fabbing, that being said, I am one of the ones in support of the section.
