Fabrication Forum
Agree with it being a great idea. It would be nice to see a how-to with full blown pictures showing everything. (most people take 2 photos and then horribly describe how they went from point A to point B.) So if people took the time and made good threads it would be a great asset.

Guys, give us some time to throw around the idea and we will get back to you as soon as we can. Does anybody have any good candidates for moderation?

If something like this were to be made it should be divided up as motor drivetrain/body/suspension/full car dyi(buildups) so you do not have threads competing for first page space, when there could be some shining threads in each section that would not get lost in the clutter.
The only problem for this I think is that there would be alot of "OMG so I am making this hood who all wants one!!!!!1!!11" type of crap that happens all the time.

It's just that the NA forum has been around for 4 months now, and there are a total of 110 threads. Most of which have been covered many times in the generational forums. The NA forum seems a bit redundant since we already have a Rotary Performance forum, two generational forums with NA cars, and the General Rotary forum (as well as the Other Rotary forum). There's no where else dedicated to Fabrication, so a Fabrication subforum is a good idea.
The NA section while only having 100+ threads has nearly 2000 posts. Compares favorably to Aux Injection with 267 posts in all of 20 months of existance and less than 4,000 posts. So , are you calling for its dismissal as well?
Other forums you might want to evaluate for the chopping block:
Motec - 35 threads / 497 posts
Race Techniques - 47 threads / 755 posts
AEM EMS - 160 threads / 1,301 posts
Drifting - 64 threads / 1,887 posts
-- FWIW - Love it or hate it, the new drifting forum was one of the most requested new forums. It is also about 4 months old and it's has even lower numbers than the poor NA forum. I do you suppose we should terminate it as well?
... this are just the smallest few examples, there are many other forums sections that have been in existance for years yet only have a few hundred posts. Point is some sections have a small following, this doesn't make them less important or vital to the growth of the forums.
You make mention that there are threads in the 2nd gen section already cover these NA Performance issues. I believe that is true, in addition I know you would know best as one of the head mods over there.
Although, I suppose there are at least a dozen or more "project/DIY" threads in each generation section.
... You know I bet there are DIY/Fab threads all over this forum, in nearly every section so by your own logic the DIY/Fab forum itself would be redundant as well.
Right?

I think "How do I" threads would be good, but we need somebody to start up a "How do I weld this and that" thread for stickies, and one of the moderators will obviously pin it up. The mod's will also start up the FAQ's for everybody.
Like with all things, good moderation will go a long way. Expressing concern for the INEVITABLE valueless threads is no reason to hold up making the new sub-forum. If it were, we might as well just shut down the effin internet(s).

Hurry Hurry !
I have some questions about gas/mig. My welds looks horrible!
What's the best "Motion" to use when migging ? VVVVVVVV ir curly q's ?
Also, what's the best way to weld tubing without starting and stopping alot ?

Just kidding. No, seriously, you will not regret it at all.
What material are you welding? Thickness, etc? There really isn't a good way that I know of to weld around tubing without stopping besides a rotary positioner (a little round table with an electric motor that turns it).
I'm no expert, but I find the motion that's like a string of cursive l's to be best for MIG if there is not too much material that needs to be added (ie-welding 2 pieces of tube as in a typical exhaust manifold). If you can borrow a TIG, I enjoy a good deal of success with a VVVV motion on the tungsten and a sewing machine like motion on the filler rod.
Unfortunately, I don't know anything Re:welding tubing without stopping more than DelSlow wrote above.
We need to get this forum going. So much I need to learn

Get yourself a well trained shop bitch to turn the tubing for you while you weld.
But, yeah, what DelSlo said on the rotary positioner. One of the race shops I used to work for had one...it was nice, but you were limited to straight tubing and stuff with light bends. Clean free hand welding FTW.
How much gap do have to fill with the pieces your welding and what's thickness? That will determine how to weld the piece.
The best thing is to get a some scrap pieces and start practicing. Practices makes eventual perfect.

I like nice small circles at a pace that keeps the pool to a manageable size, to slow the puddle and heat become to much and you burn a hole, to fast and you wont have enough heat pen to hold anything together and the weld will most likely have hole in places.

I've got a 110 Lincoln Gas Mig. There's noway I can afford a TIG right now, so I need to do with what I have.
