Winter Storage Tips?
Winter Storage Tips?
Going to be putting my 84 GSL SE away for the winter. Wondering if there is anything I should do to the car?
I am going to remove the battery. Going to leave it in gear and not use the parking brake. Put a towel in the exhaust to keep unwanted "guests" out. All fluids were changed this year and the rad fluid was just changed.
Should I put gasline antifreeze in before storing it away? Anything else I should do?
It will be going in a barn w/ a steel roof.
Thanks,
Duane

BARN?..I hope there Isn't Livestock in there!...the car will Smell of Manure..(this, of course will "deter" any Babe Contact..no matter how "sexy" the car is!)
Start it and let it warm up to operating temperature every couple of weeks, this keeps the Apex seals well lubricated. Rotarys don't like to sit for extended periods of time.

If you fog the motor as per Aaron's storage instructions, you don't have to, and shouldn't, start the motor until it's time to bring 'er out in the spring. I don't do the fogging, partly because I sometimes have to pull the 7 out of the garage anyway. I've found no problem with letting the car sit 3-4+ weeks between running it to full operating temp and taking it for a short drive (the battery gets removed and stored inside). It always gets put away with clean oil and filter. Calgary has an extremely arid winter climate, which helps. If your storage location is humid (and if there's animals or feed in that barn, it is), fogging or more frequent running would be advised.

Just stored my car last weekend (and then of course, the weather warmed up!). While I skipped the interior steps and didn't bother prepping the suspension and brakes since they will be replaced in the spring, I did the exact procedure as specified on my website. In total, it took about 5 hours.
i am little wiery on the no starting the engine.
if u do start it of course u must let it warm up to operation temperature.
but i like the engine fogging idea alot.
