What's it worth?
I'm looking to sell my 1985 GSL-SE. 2nd owner, I bought in 1991. It has 54,000 original km. and is in new condition. 100% original. appraised at $12,500. What would a realistic asking price be?

I paid $5K for mine 4 years ago. It was in good shape, with 136K on it. Aside from the rear inner fender rust the body was good. It's worse now, but racing and hard street driving will do that. Keep the appraisal paperwork handy, but expect most people to not see the worth in an old small Mazda. I told someone I wanted $10K for mine after dumping a ton of money into it and he thought I was crazy. Of course I also gave him that number because I knew no one would want to pay that, given all the mods can't be seen. Ask for the appraisal amount or best offer. I've seen a couple on Autotrader for about the same amount.
In my opinion though, if you don't need to sell you, you probably will regret it afterwards.

I likely would miss it but I simply dont use it enough. I have only drove it 20,000km in the last 18 years. Most of those km's were in the first few years of ownership. I'm thinking somebody else may get more use out of it.

to be honest, in this economy, considering the market and etc...
what it's worth and what you'll get if you sell it are two completely different things.
$10k buys a clean 3rd gen these days. That eliminates alot of your market.
I'd say ask whatever you like but if you really want to sell it be prepared for $5k or less. If that's too low a dollar for you - and you have somewhere inside to store it anyhow - I'd just keep the car.
Something like this might bring the best dollar at a classic car auction instead of on the internet.

Sell it on eBay. Prices have gone down dramatically over the last year, though. I suspect you will get in the $8,000 to $10,000 range -- most likey mid $8K. I've seen other similar low KMs cars sell in that range.
Now is the worst time to sell. People aren't thinking summer car as we head into winter. I would hold off and list it in the spring. For example,
This RX7 LE with only 14,000 miles sold for only $8K USD recently:

And the engine was new!!!! It had been stored and when started blew, so it was replaced at a Mazda dealership. I really expected it to sell for over $10K.
$5K in my opinion would be a give away price for your car. If you are thinking that low, give me a hollar

I hear you......I have only driven my car 1500km this whole year also.....but you can never replace that car.
Ultimately up to you........but in honesty even if you got a full 10K for that car.....what will that 10K really get you anyways. 10K is gone in a snap, think how fast that money would be spent.
In 20 more years in that shape, your car could be worth a fortune. You don't even need to have it on the road all year. Take it out and drive it only in July and August, then put her away again.....
Good luck with your decision.....and I don't know where Palmerston is, but you should definetely bring that car to the RX meet next week, if you are close enough to Mississauga/Sherway Gardens.

Wow, nice car, I thought my '91 was low kms at 124,000, but no comparison with yours.
Your car likely won't fetch remotely close to it's appraised value, unfortunately. It's a bad time of year to be selling a sports car, especially one that anyone willing to pay anything over $3-5K will want to keep in storage over the winter. It mostly comes down to finding the right person, who has the money and is willing to treat the car as an investment, not a vehicle - ie., keep it clean, mostly stock, and low kms. Which is something that takes time, and presenting to the right audience.
