i have often wondered the same thing, if you look at the gaskets, they are different, but still look similar... apparently the s5 and s6 upper and lower mating surface is the same since the gaskets are the same.

No, they don't fit. At least not properly. You can switch the whole intake set up to s5 if you like though. It's not worth the work to use the s5 uim with the s4 lower.

Talking F.y.i.

I know that this wasn't asked, but when I changed my S4 intake to an S5 I didn't notice any improvement and in fact I noticed that my lap times were slower and the car didn't have the same topend charge. Other points to consider is that I was always above 4,000 rpm and pulling to 7,800 rpm banging on through the rev limiter.

The S5 intake was wired open and running on the secondary ports only. The S4 had been ported by hand, by myself and really only had the sharp edges radiused and port matched between the UIM and the LIM to get rid of the restriction. The motor was a stock port S5 and pulled to 215 kmh (free air) to 220 kmh (with a draft) with the ported S4 intake and a stock S4 ecu. I acquired an S5 intake and performed the same porting on it and wired the secondaries open as I was always above 4,000 rpm. I was expecting an increase in top end charge, more mph, etc...., but in fact the car dropped to a free air 205 - 210 and with a draft I could barely pull 215 kmh by itself. Another difference was with the S4 intake the car would almost take a second breath and pull hard again as I crested the hill going into Turn 8 and sometimes almost spin the rear tires as the car became unweighted over the crest of the hill. With the S5 intake it would pull strong through the 4500 to 6000 rpm range but the power would tail off as I crested the hill. Same ECU, exhaust, fuel and same stock port motor.

I wonder if the power advantage of the S5 comes from the increased compression and higher computor rev limiter and the S5 intake improves lower end torque and driveability. Just something to think about if you are doing this for a power gain. Or it could be the case of the S4 intake working best with the timing and fueling of the S4 computor.

John's running it on a t2 block. Completely different. I beleive the s5 na intakes aren't all that much of an advantage themselves, like you said, I'm pretty sure they only work better with the higher compression, different spark plug location, ecu etc... It all needs to work as a system.

my understanding was that the power gains on and s5 motor compared to an S4 was that the rotors were milled instead of cast. i guess that also plays into compression too

John,
I am running an s4t2 block with s5 uim, lim and tb. I guees what Brent trying to say is that if you are going run s5uim then the easiest way is to run s5lim as well for your s4t2 block.

Exactly George, I've spoke with John about this over the phone, he's got a complete s5 intake(upper and lower) on order and I'm building his engine this week.
