A treat for Canadian FB owners

RPM Motorsports is now a Canadian distributor for ReSpeed products, which now includes their new Rack and pinion kit for 1st gens!!

http://www.mrcmfg.com/respeed/

I just finished installing the first Rack an pinion kit into this immaculate 84 GSL-SE with 70,000 original kms on it, this car is amazing!

The owner had the CP Racing rack kit in it and hated driving the car, and I can tell why. After taking it for a quick test drive down the road, I honestly dont know how anyone could drive a car like that. It bump steered like mad and you could never keep it pointed in a straight line even on the smoothest of roads.

So with Billys (Respeed) new rack kit now available, the owner wanted/needed something different.

Here are some pics of the process

The new parts! yay

Once we got the toe set I took it out for a quick drive to make sure everything was alright....and it was amazing! This steering kit is by far the best thing anyone who has a CP Racing kit or even factory steering could do to their car!
It drives soooo nice, no bump steer what-so-ever, very smooth when entering a sharp corner, no binding....WOW is all I had to say.

Thumbs waaay up to Billy at Respeed for a very quality product that actually works!

If you have any question about the kit, let me know, pricing is on Billy's website. I dont want to undercut Billy's pricing so what prices he has listed is what they sell for.
Installation takes a good 5-6 hours depending how many bolts get broken , Anyone who has a CP kit in their car already, will need a different steering colum and new outter tie rod ends and will take about an hour extra to make some changes.

Talking Wow

Nice.

My SE is in storage now. But you can be sure to get a call from me in the spring. I was planning on buying the kit then, but with limited time on my hands it's good to know that I can have someone who is experienced with the kit install it for me.

My se is mint as well with only 80k and even cleaner underneath so it should be a joy to work on.

It was like a thousand users of dial up all cried out and then were silenced.

Yeah Joe, what would you charge to do that whole kit?

Im considering this setup, problem is my current steering-box has a little wondersteer. For the cost of the rack and pinion kit, I can easily rebuild my front end with a brand new steering box and colum.

You guys to remember that there is 2 ways of doing this ... i have one on order also and should be arriving shortly, but 1000$ price tag includes the new rack and all the goodies, but you can have it done for about 500-600$ depending on where you can get a maybe used rack, or a cheaper brand rebuilt rack, and also just going with the basic kit and not changing all the other arms and what not.

Wow nice SE Adam! Its actually very surprising how many SE's are still out there!
Just let us know when you want to order the kit and we can go from there.

ourxseven - The rack we installed was the quick ratio 15:1, which I think is perfect for the FB, I dont think the 20:1 would be very well suited.... And yes it was a brand new Flaming river rack that we installed.
Sometime in Janurary sound good Ray....we have to fill that winter build list lol.

Alak - Considering on average from start to finish it takes 6 hours, we plan on setting a flat rate of $450 for install, we will do $500 even for install and alignment. Any parts that are too rusty and break will be extra (balljoints, tie rod ends, swaybar endlinks)

dj55b - We plan on stocking the full subframe kit without the rack and we will outsource rebuilt rack and pinions to save on shipping from Respeed. We dont have the exact price on the subframe kit just yet, working on the shipping details.

We also plan on stocking most of Respeeds other products they sell, such as the FB camber plates, coilover kits, brake convertions ect. I've already recieved a few calls and emails about getting their other products.

with the canadian dollar being better than the US dollar will your pricing reflect the good exchange rate?

Sure it will....except the fact that shipping a subframe will cost just about as much if not more than the difference in the dollar....so yea

Driving an FB with proper steering makes me want to get an FB again LOL. Too many cars!!#$

So joe,

Since you will be carrying all of RESpeed product line more or less, I take it you will no longer be finishing development of your own rack and pinion design correct?

Pretty much, Billy and I came to that agreement. His rack is compete and now on the market and its all sorted out. No sense in me trying to re-invent something that is as good as his rack kit.
