tow away in calgary

Any body know of a good company to tow away a vehicle to scrap. Also do you think they will care that it has no rear suspension or front tires.

Thanks

Cost me $40 to get my FB shell taken away as scrap. You have to tell them it has no suspension or wheels, etc.

They usually send a flatbed and take her away.

Depends I guess. I called the first scrap tower I seen in the phone book (this was years ago). It cost me because there was not 1 nut, bolt or screw in the whole shell. So to them, its useless, even for scrap metal value. However, if it has vital components, like drivetrain, then they pay you and part out of the other stuff.

you PAID SOMEONE to take a car?

wow.

even a totally stripped to bare steal car is still work $50-75 in scrap steel, so you ought to get something from it!

Yeah, but their time is worth something too, and the time required to pick up a car and then deliver it to a scrap metal recycler is at least an hour or three. Not to mention the cost of fuel to do so, maintenance, insurance and taxes.

When all is said and done the person hauling it away is working for not much more per hour than the average Joe. And since it's piece-work (paid by the number of vehicles delivered rather than an hourly wage) this means that he may only be picking up one or two cars per day--- that's $100 to $150 per day before expenses.

Right now I have the completely stripped shell of what used to be an '85 GSL in my garage. I'm 60 km southwest of Calgary, so I'm having trouble finding a scrap metal pick-up company that can be bothered to travel so far for so little return on investment.

But if this were a complete car with lots of parts to pick off and sell they'd probably pay me for the privalege of taking it away. However, I decided to strip the car and keep said components for myself rather than to eventually buy them back one at a time from them.
