Steve Kan Tuning Session in Calgary, AB
WTF Smitter, you have to keep me up to date on this stuff. I would be willing to bring my car down for some tuning. Steve worked on it a few years ago at 7stock and at Gotham. He's a great guy and an even better tuner!
If its in the spring count me in, should have it running again by then.

added u to the list 3rdgenguy, yeah 18psi is pushing your luck, u might be able to get away with it if your running the low comp rotors.
the dyno we use is yet to be determined, anyone who has a connection or suggestion is greatly appreciated.
I am thinking we will aim to pick a date in may. Imput from u guys is also welcome on this, we gotta decide this as a group

Steve has been here in Ontario a few times.
He'll usually tune to 16 psi on 94 Octane.
Not sure what he does on 91.
I ran 18 psi on 94 Octane for a few years in my FC, with S5 engine. 11.0 AFR, 14* lead advance at peak torque. Our HBP FD race car runs 18 psi on 94 pump, with a GT40. Mind you, we have Ianetti's
.
I know Maxthe7man used to run even crazier boost than that on 91, with a full BP and a T51 or whatever it was. He was a master, though.
But, ssssshhhhhhh, don't tell anyone. It will sell less WI/AI systems...

Sounds like a Steve Kan tuning session in Calgary may have a chance
i run 102 oct gas and have been running 17psi for little while now on crazyrx7 (member who tuned my car) tune made 402whp at 14psi. 18psi is not a lot my buddy runs 22psi on his with auxilary injection id say it more on who built your motor and i have hit over 9,000 rpm a few times. once agian there a reason my motor last is because it build right.

You can't run 18 PSi on pump gas unless you run pig rich or have auxiliary injection.

Theres a big difference between 102 octane fuel and pump gas. I did say pump gas, 102 octane is not pump gas. The whole reason people run auxiliary injection is because of the limits of PUMP gas. That's gas you buy at your local pump, 91, 93, or Sunoco 94.
If you want to tune your car to the limit to last safely on pump gas, you tune for 16-17 PSi. If you want dyno numbers, you do one or two pulls at 18 PSi and never again.

The motor can last at 18 PSi, just the pump gas can't take the heat generated by the pressure and you get good old pre-ignition (detonation) which in turn breaks apex seals. At higher pressures your apex seals wear more (but don't break because of it). Apex seals break because of detonation caused by tuning that doesn't match the fuel being used or a malfunction in the control of the tune. The problem is rotary's don't take detonation well. You just don't have enough time to realize something is wrong until after the fact.
I can't speak for the shop but a good motor with a good tune can be very durable even at high pressures assuming nothing external goes wrong causing a chain of events breaking your motor.
Also, I'm no expert. I'm just trying to keep people blowing a motor because they don't have the knowledge. I blew my motor but I was looking for that limit and could afford a rebuild, there's no need for you to find the limit the hard way.

thewird thanks i see were you come from trying to help the rotary club i have taken all these facts in to acount i rebuilt with s4 rotors and 3m seals small sreet port broken in on the stock twins for 250000km then went single and have just done a compression check and was great so now i want to hit 500whp at 18-20psi with 102 oct gas my car is a monster at 16psi and spin throw 2nd keep up with bike is also fun now it going to be at it last level best part is im at full boost by 3800rpm.
If your using 102 octane, that is fine. I was mainly speaking for pump gas, even the best Sunoco 94 has its limits.
Good luck with your tune. I'm going to be trying my hand at 100% methanol injection next year with 80% gas, 20% methanol at 20+ PSi. I'm currently reading every thread in the auxiliary injection section so I will be ready for this task when the time comes.

Hahaha I was about to mention that. He doesnt think twice about 18psi+ on pump gas, never had any issues. I don't even bother asking what tuning tricks he's learned in Japan to accomplish this cause A) He'll never tell, and B) I wouldnt understand anyway, I'll be satisfied with a ride in shotgun.

I know the stuff he learned in Japan blows everything that's taken as 'gospel' here out of the water. He let a few things slip here and there, but I know he guards the stuff he learned there really well.
Anyway, back on topic.
