Steve Kan Tuning Session in Calgary, AB
Hey guys, im trying to get a tuning session with Steve Kan down here to Calgary.
Just curious if he did come who would be interested? We would need a 100% commitment from probably 5-10 people to get him to take the time to come down and tune the cars. Heres his pricing structure. Tuning costs: $350 - Stock Turbo up to 12psi of boost (pump gas only) 1 map $400 - Aftermarket Turbo up to 16psi of boost (pump gas only) 1 map $450 - Aftermarket Turbo from 16psi - 25psi of boost (race gas and/or auxiliary injection only) 1 map $600 - Aftermarket Turbo up to 25psi of boost (pump gas and race gas tune) 2 maps On all tuning sessions there is a Non-refundable $200 deposit. Additional costs will be applied for dyno time. Most tunes take anywhere from 1-3hrs. So post your name up if you would 100% be in if he came down. Just add your name to the list. -Mark 1) Nforce-Mark w. 2) |
Does that include dyno costs? What dyno would he be using?
|
Im awaiting Steve's PM on Kan tuning right now about that. But like it says "Additional costs will be applied for dyno time. Most tunes take anywhere from 1-3hrs. " So i believe that would be the shop time on top of everything else. Not sure, so dont take that as gospel, ill let you know for sure when i know. But if your interested put your name on the list.

That seems expensive if you're paying another hundred an hour for dyno time.

Actually it seems really cheap to me. To get a car properly tuned with all parameters considered you can see upwards of 10-15 hours on the dyno which gets into the multi thousands of dollars really quick. I received an e-mail from guys in Quebec who's engines blew after a quick tune. Was it the tune or the engines? Nobody really can say for sure and therein lies the risk in having someone tune an engine they didn't build or know how it was built. Getting a base tune for your car on the dyno will help a ton to keeping things safer but if you plan to push the limits you will need to spend considerably more time making sure that every load cell is correct.
But what i see there, is that you're going to pay, potentially from 600-900$ for what? A couple of hours of a tuners time, tops? That's why i said it was expensive. You're right though, it would be cheap, for a proper tune. Mabey Kan is just THAT good. |
Kan tunes in 30-60 minutes for most cars >_>. Yes, he is that good. He's tuned thousands of them. If you want to it tuned, get it done right or learn to tune yourself so you can't say its too expensive.

I'd like to see just how good he is. I wonder how you define the best tune? Maybe you want it to start every morning? Maybe the most power?

Just for organizational purposes, here is the forum post on Kan Tuning. He just got back to me with some information.
http://kantuning.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=348#348 Hey Mark, I will need deposits ($200/person) 1 month prior to the tune date in order to make this a confirm session. Basically, you can either collect all deposit and send it to me all at once or they can mail them directly to me. However, if they mail individually, it could delay the time recieved/confirmed. Once we figure out a date for the session, I will move this thread the schedule session and will also post the date on the calender. Let me know if you have any questions, Steve please dont flood the forum post over at Kan Tuning, ask questions here and ill relay them over to Steve. Thanks guys, -Mark |
Kan was spotted viewing this thread, would it not make more sense having a date set before a deposit is given? I cant commit my money if the date doesnt work for me. give your head a shake!
|
sure there is bud, we'll have the engine out tonight, figure out what you wanna do with it, its at the shop this week, you get it back in 2 weeks, put it in, its ready mid oct!
|
^yeah i edited that post, i thought it gave me 8 days, Adam is not busy so i am looking for a turn around of less then 2 weeks. Mike is bringing the engine hoist by tomorrow nite, hes busy tonight, but we can have it ready.

oh sorry i worded that wrong man. haha. Yea K heres a quote from the thread over at kan tuning:

Depending on your area, you guys might be able to do street tunes and save the cost of a dyno.

ahh yea probzbly a option, but id rather not take any chances and jump on the dyno. Steve would probably like the same thing. more of a controlled environment, and no worries about police, pedestrians. Plus we would have to be out very late to avoid the po po.

ALRIGHT BOYS! got some good answers from steve just now. Heres what he had to say.
Hey Mark, The $200 go towards the total price of the tune. The $200 is use for expenses (air fare, meal, hotels, cars if applicable.) If the tuning session doesn't happen, I will refund the money/check back to the people who signed up. The only time that the money is non-refundable is when I purchase a plane ticket and commited to the trip. As for a dyno, its up to you guys since you guys are paying their shop for using the dyno, the tuning price is strictly for tuning only. As for a date, it comes down to when I receive all the deposits. Generally, I would need closer to 10 people for Canada trip since expenses are slightly higher than U.S. Otherwise, I would need to raise approx $50 more per person (I haven't check airfare yet) if we only get less than 10 person unless someone is covering the airfare. Check with my calender and find a weekend that is more suited for you guys and I'll lock that date for you. So We pick the date, but we need about 5-6 more people to get him to come down, or we pay him a 250 dollar deposit. So what date works for everyone? WE will make a date, but at the same time we need more people to sign up. Also keep an eye out/recommend a possible dyno location. WE pay the shop time, so if we can get a group rate that would be beneficial. I vouch for the weekend of OCT 25-26. So how does the date of OCT 25-26 work for everyone? I think its far enough in the future for you guys to work around. Faster we get a date set in stone the faster we can get the ball rolling on this. So everyone needs to pucker up and state what they think asap. Im trying to get some guys from e-town to come to the dyno day aswell, which should help with the #'s. -Mark |
Just to clear this up guys, in my previous post (i cant edit it) i said if we dont get 5-6 more people we will have to may $50 more. That statement is incorrect. What steve meant was
"Depending upon the airfare price, the price for tuning could be $50 more per person instead of the normal rate I charge for tuning. " |
with 10 cars being tuned i am gonna assume we need a dyno for 2 days?
i would like to see it take place on nov 1-2. Although i know weather could be a factor at that date, i am not scheduled to be working. if we did it the weekend previous i would have to make arrangements to be there. whatever it takes though. Gary where are u? can u talk to your dyno buddy? |
