Rebuild in Vancouver
I've had some serious problems trying to find someone to rebuild my 13B turbo. I've called a couple places and they want 7-9 grand and thats ridiculous. Any input would be great.
Thanks

I am assuming this is for a third gen. Call Staff's, great place to deal with there. The r&r is a big part of the cost. What is wrong with your engine? If it popped an apex seal you are looking at 1 rotor and 1 new housing, that's $800-1000 right there, take a second new housing to match, parts are now at $1500, a full rebuild kit with almost everything replaced is $1400. Now you're at $2900 just in parts. Add at least $600 for the R&R, $500 for engine teardown and rebuilt, another $450 for porting (might as well at this point) and you're at $4450. Now add $400 for a clutch & pressureplate (probably worn anyway) and $300 for unforseeables (vacuum hoses, sensors, etc) and you are at $5150. If the side plates need lapping you'll need another $300, so now you are up to $5450. That would be a "deal" on a thorough rebuild, you just drop it off and pick it up. If the builder has a good used rotor and housing and can re-use a lot of the parts you'll start saving $$$$, but you need to know where things "can" go. My builder hates making the call with, ahhhh I found thins and I found that, so he gives a worst case scenario so you can prepare the $$ to go forward without shock and then give a true estimate after disassembly. PM me if you want other suggestions that cannot be listed on the open forum. http://www.staffsauto.com/ Also, you can pm football22 about his story. He picked up a third gen at the port and blew it up outside of Vancouver and Staff's took good care of him. https://www.rx7club.com/canadian-forum-42/purchased-1992-rx-7-anfini-614916/ Goodluck...
Call RG Racing in Coquitlam. They have a really good rotary guy there, Mark. They will take care of you. http://www.racinggreed.com/index.php?section=home
ive heard of a shop in langly.. or maybe it was richmond... i cant remember... either way theres this red fd with a crazy v-mount setup where the intercooler is on the bottom and hes got a shop he goes to. I'm pretty sure its not in coquitlam.
whatever you do dont go to this one in burnaby.. i cant remember the name but it sounds japaneese-ish (id just stay away from all of them just to be safe)... anyhow i was looking at this one fd to buy and the guy brought his motor to this shop to get a rebuild and the guy re-used his gouged housing. predictably the engine blew again... for some reason he took it back there - who knows why.
if you follow the teardown and rebuild section of the manual and read up on general engine rebuilding you should be able to get through it yourslef. there are a few videos online to help too from pineapple racing, i think you can order a video from atkins rotary. the only draw back from doing it yourlsef is you might make a mistake, which a shop might (probably will if they arnt familiar with it) do anyways. a motor you build yourslef, especially your first one, will probably not last as long as a professionally built one but atleast you've gained the experience... or it might not be as fast as a professionally rebuilt motor.... if your not looking to have a track monster then the last one probably isnt a big deal..
... looking at the staff's website i came accross this http://www.staffsauto.com/forsale.htm... its the car i was talking about above (a fellow forum member)... too bad hes selling it. So i suppose this is the shop I was thinking about - i thought forsure it was in langly or richmond...

I have not had any work done at any shop on this list, so I can't endorse any of them personally - this is just a list that was on another site. My car is actually going in for some work soon so I'll post afterwards with my impressions of the shop.

Tekam Automotive LTD was the company I had heard about.... id stay away from those guys.
Ive heard decent things about Forcefed Performance & Tuning and Staff though the grapevine.... maybe start there?

if your planning on doing ANYTHING performance just go to forcefed. Any car that has been to any of the above mentioned shops eventually winds up there. Cut out the middle man and headaches and just go there. Marko does great work.
