Question about Apex FC and ECu

so when i bought my car...the owner had blown the engine and we rebuilt it with what he called it with aggressive streetport and now its running a Re-Amemiya ecu that came with the car.....i think that the japanese guy that owned it before in japan (JDM-model) may have bought the ecu and got it tuned directly from reamemiya cause i see that he has quite a few mods...
now the question....with a new streetport i would like the buy a pfc and i was wondering if the US version of the power fc will fit the JDM-FD3S and with that reamemiya ecu would it still plug in?

Another question is when i run the car...which i have been doing for the past 3 months....given it wasnt winter....its been running rich...and the guy told me that its kinda of a safety precaution...so somewhat safeguards the engine...and i have seen in forums that reamimeya ecus are tuned extremely rich....is it actually dangerous driving like this with a streetport and a reamemiya ecu.??.cause i boost sometimes but not often

and does anyone know any good pfc tuners out there with a dyno...im situated in london, ontario but willing to go anywhere in ONTARIO to get a good tune.....
ive looked at streetpowers website...and it seems pretty decent...does anyone have any comments?

Oh and how much is it for a tune and dyno session?

Thanks GUys

I would ditch the chipped ECU, no telling with fuel it is tuned for.....more then likly 98 octane. These cars always run much better rich, only concern you should have is at WOT, any leans spots under hi boost will be disastrous. I would go with a PFC in a heart beat, seek out "thewird" on here, he does a great job tuning PFC's.
Good Luck

mine also came with knight sports ECU.. and trust me these ecu are also capable of mkaing some serious powers.. but i think in north america its been a tradition to use power fc's... i dont know much about rx7s coz i am new on the forum and with rotaries?
i also have a question why would you run the amemiya and power fc together? more power? or?????

Yes a north american PFC will work in a 92-96 FD, the PFC would replace the RE ECU which is a chipped stock unit.

The PowerFC is actually a "JDM spec" ECU. It's plug and play with a JDM car. With the North American versions of the FD, you have to cut 4 wires to make it similiar to the JDM harness and then it works the same.

There have been some problems with the JDM's though where the harness has been tampered with to defeat the 180 km limiter on the JDM stock ECU and when you plug in the powerfc, it doesn't run right. But you can assume yours doesn't have that problem until you actually have a problem :P.

Since the powerfc uses the stock harness, no modification is necessary and you can go back to your Re-Amemiya ECU if you'd want to but there is no reason to use a generic tuned ECU once you have a tuned powerfc for your car.

As for running rich, turbo rotaries are always tuned rich for longevity. Running leaner does give you more power but for how long. An example is below of when I was testing the limits of tuning... Sure it made a noticeable amount of power increase that could keep up with a single turbo but it also only lasted 4 laps at Mosport before this happened...

Now it also depends where your running rich. Generally you run rich under boost and lean in vacuum. Running rich in vacuum is a waste of gas. Running rich generally is a good thing but if your running too rich or rich where you don't need to be, after prolonged use carbon builds up in your motor.

As for tuning, send me a PM and we can work out the details.

It's not a question of the ECU being capable. It's a question of it being tuned to the car its going to be used in. The RE ECU is a reflashed stock computer for a specific setup, similar to the Pettit ECU. Making power is all about delivering the right fuel and timing without blowing the engine. It has nothing to do with the ECU brand. Also, to your last question, all I can say is lol.... Running RE-Amemiya ECU's give you magic powers where you can run multiple ECU's together and give you extra horsepower just for being in your car.
