ON what is a RHD FD shell worth

I recently found an FD that needs some work to complete but I feel has some pretty good potential. I was looking for an idea on what a shell would be worth in case completing the project goes south.
The car is not currently running because the current owner does not have time to complete the build but it is essentially missing the turbos and parts of the fuel system are in various disarray. The car has been resprayed but the job is pretty much garbage on the car. The interior on the car is mint which is important and the car's compression before the build was pretty good. Overall i think its a good car but needs finished and resprayed the right way.
I am looking to get an idea what these things are worth as I like the project but dont want to end up taking a stupid loss on the car.

So could i part a stock one of these out for 2,3,4k?
Anyone had a paint job on there 7? would 2-3k be enough to do a good paint job if i wanted to fix it all up and drive it?
If i could buy the car for 4 and finish it up for a total of 8 i think it would be a good deal?

Are you importing? If so you can get an FD for 4k with under 80k km and 2-3k for importing, so around 7k in all.

I paid 4K for mine, complete, clean interior, 80k and needed a motor if that helps you.

The car is already imported and registered it is just the current owner cant finish his project so he is essentially selling it as is with parts missing ect. I think i can get the car for 3k. he has upgraded the drivetrain with a new clutch and has a new HKS exhaust so I am just trying to get an idea if its a good deal or not.

Hard to say. I bought mine for 7k. I had a solenoid issue so my secondary wouldn't come online but that could have been a $20 fix for the mechanically inclined.

You could get lucky and put the car back together and get it running for under a $1,000. If that's the case then you saved a few bucks. Or you could continue to get deeper and deeper because the car needed more than you thought. If that is the case you are going to get screwed.

I was thinking the same thing before I bought mine, guy I knew had one with a suspected blown motor, and it was an auto, but for cheap, it was the color I wanted too, then realized with how finiky these cars can be, and fragile... I decided to pick up one that needed nothing but go fast parts, and my love...

Unless you have access to big garage, lots of time and money for parts in case you need them, just get one that runs, it will be nice to sit in it and drive it, rather then spend weeks trying to fix a problem that may or may not be there...

My opinion

So it seems the consensus is to walk away. I think it may be the right move as well as it may be one of those deals where it sounds to good to be true so maybe it is. It might be another story if it was a differnt time and I had a bigger garage to work on though lol.
Thanks for the opinions.

Dont be discouraged, it seems like a great idea right now, but with a car so fragile as this one, where one small issue can snowball into many others, it is the wise choice,

I bought my FD not even a month ago, owner was asking just over $8000 I offered just under $6K cash and he took it, clean car, 84,000kms,

keep your eye open, you will find a deal you will be able and willing to do

I've seen the red one in guelph in person, not that clean. The paint is horrible, looks like it was put on with a roller, used to be MB, lots of runs. Boost was all over the place (not 8-10-8) and the vac gauge was bouncing rapidly at idle. Reminded me when i chipped a side seal, so could need a motor. Not worth 6500, maybe 3500 in it's cond't,,

just my .02

I wouldn't know exactly what a shell would be worth but I just picked up a 1992 Efini FD "shell" for $3k. It needs a lot of work but I thought it would be a fun (and expensive) adventure.

I have the luxury of a best friend with a large garage and he loves car more than me so I just go over there and we work on the car every other day. But if you can find one for cheap, and have the time, money and desire to work on cars then I would say go for it. It is a lot of fun so far. Plus I won't be driving it till the salt and snow clears anyways so who cares if it doesn't drive right now.
