Opinons wanted on Kijiji 'very in Halifax

Looking for the opinions on what this car is worth and/or if it's even worth pursuing as a project. This is the second time it's been on Kijiji this year. The person selling it now bought it in March before I could go look at it the last time. He couldn't get it started (he did change plugs and put a new battery in it, but doesn't sound too rotary savy.)
Not that I need another project, by I just don't want to see a 'vert get handed around too much.
Description sounds like it's just badly flooded. (But, always possible it's worse.)

http://halifax.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...dIdZ281540954#

I haven't officially gone to look at it yet, but I knew where it was parked and dropped by last night without talking to the seller just to look it over so I only know external things so far.
Floor seems solid, and exhaust is fairly new. Rockers are a little worse than they appear in the picture, as is the passenger side fender and the drivers side quarter panel. Those will probably all need new metal.
Top looks ok. (No rips.) Obviously has the wrong wheels on it, and the trunk lid will need to be replaced. (It's a bit rusty, plus not only is the wing horrible, there are mounting holes from a couple more wings on the trunk lid.)
Missing a few interior bits (no passenger side carpet) and the seats have "Chevrolet" seat covers on them, which probably means they are rough but otherwise it seems decent for a Canadian car.

Been talking to the seller and trying to set up a meet tomorrow after work to check it over a little closer (check all the electrics work etc.)
So, any thoughts on what people would offer assuming the rest checks out, or would any of you even bother?

the car looks ok from the outside, but what is your end result.............. to replace all the steel, then do body work then ,paint the car , then replace the Engine, wow as a long time car guy unless you really need a challenge,I would either get the car cheap to start with, so you can spend the rest of your time and money bringing it back to the same shape it was when it was built,or buy it for parts ,and locate a better body either way its a tough call, I know I have owned over a hundred Rx7s over the past 31 years and I still can,t stop.buying them cars come to me all the time..... some go back on the road some go to racing school and some are just stripped of all usefull parts and crushed while others simply sit and wait patiently ..while I work on the the others, by the way I can assist you with some parts as I have a California Rx7 which I Imported several(5) years ago which, sadly had a engine fire , i will be turning it into a race car so the soft trim and some sheet metal will be for sale..........fred

Thanks for the thoughts. I probably should have given more context (that's what I get for posting while I'm on the phone at work.)
My thoughts would be to essentially make it back to more or less a stockish weekend toy. Only thing we don't have in the fleet is a convertible, she wants one some day, and Miata's are too cliche.

My interest in mostly being driven by vert's going for silly money down here. The asking price on clean-ish convertibles is $7500 and "projects" are $3500. I'm thinking if I could get him down to $1200-1500, then spend $1000 on the bodywork, I'd come out ahead. But, it also very possibly I'm totally deluding my self as these things always seem so easy on the internet.

Well, he is asking $1800 now. You should be able to get him down to the $1200 mark. Point out the rust and the cost of a paint job. Point out the cost to replace the trim on a 23 year old car. If he can't get it started, use that against him too.
Chances are the engine and tranny are fine. Those NA's are pretty robust.
So if you get it for $1000, you are going to end up with a car that needs a ton of body work and a paint job. You probably want it to look complete, so you'll spend a lot of time and money to fill in the missing pieces.

But eventually you'll have a nice convertible for a cheap price.
Go for it. (But get rid of that wing!!)

One question, which car gets put outside, wait a minute, you'll have to put your car outside. Looks like a fun project, I'm in for some wrenching.

Finally got a chance to go over the car yesterday. We gave it a pretty thorough check, and unfortunately it's a blown apex seal. No compression on two faces on one rotor. Didn't even need to hook up the compression tester. Turning it over with the plugs out you could hear the gap in the pulses.
Upside to that (from my perspective) is the car is now a cheap roller project car. I've got a running S5 NA motor out of a parts car (currently sitting in the race car to move that around while we do some stuff to the race engine on the stand), and 2 or 3 more S4 NA motors in various states of dis-assembly. I feel bad for the guy, as he doesn't know anything about RX7s and kind of got taken by the original seller, but a roller is worth what a roller is worth.
Stewing on it a bit right now, but will probably make him an offer as a roller project.
