Odd Staring issue...

Coming home today in my 88 FC and it dies on me. Luckily it was close enough to actually roll it into my driveway! Now when I try to start it, it starts up perfectly fine but shuts off after 3 seconds. Its always the same time as I have counted... I was thinking it was the AFM so I just changed it and still having the same problem.
The odd thing is, when it dies, I cannot even keep it running by planting my foot down on the gas. Its like something is shutting it down. I'm hoping Dave or someone is around to give me a quick solution or what the long term issue is. Its blocking the driveway now and sooner or later I will start hitting things till it starts working..

Sounds like it could be an AFM fuel cut, I've seen it on an 13B FB. I *think* FCs were similar.
From an old FB post:

Have you tried the AFM bypass jumper near the AFM?
https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...2&d=1211496703
(For 13B FB, see T connector, pg 301 haynes, B-25 Short connector of fuel)

pg15, a circuit open relay may also cause this:

Lool Neither of them... Actually I just filled up when this happened. Fuel filter is a ok, and hoses are cool. I changed the AFM with a new one and it did the same thing.
Apparently, my cruise control cable slipped out and as soon as I set the cable back in, it magically start working again LOL. If it does seem to act up again, Ima deff, start on that na to turbo setup pronto

UPDATE: Shut off with me again yesterday as I was buying smoothies for my friend..... Open the hood and hit the intake box and noticed that the MAF retaining spring had popped off and caused the plug to get loose If I wasn't so sick with the flu atm, I would've been able to find this in a jiffy on Friday lool. Thanks guys for your input.

Glad you found the problem.

I know it's a typo but your thread title reads "Odd Staring issue" which is actually hilarious, made more so by the unintentionality of it.

Glad you found the problem.

Just to clarify the relay I was talking about, in case someone runs into a similar problem and it isn't the AFM connection:

Circuit Opening Relay (for EGI, fuel pump, etc.): Post 6, pic #1, mounted under instrument panel.
