Installing sideskirts for the FD

Where could I get a stronger 2x-sided tape to install my sideskirts?

Bought the 3M tape from part source and just not enough. I have the Shineauto replica and this thing have a fitment issue that I was hoping can be solve by a stronger tape or adhesive. Any input is appreciated.

For starters, double sided tape works best when used with promoter......basically an alchol solvent you clean the surface with...it'll make that stuff stick like snot to a screen door.

Next, no matter how well it sticks, if its under tension (part wants to pull off the surface) then you need to address that issue otherwise the part will win every time, making it stick better just buys more time/delays it coming off.

fresh paint (week old) then I used rubbing alcohol. Not sure how to address the part itself when is is molded incorrectly....it is off again, thinking about using pl700 from home depot...

OMG, PL premium?!?!?!?!?!?

We use that for glueing tiles back together when the drywall delivery guys break a tile!

My cousin put some CNC plates on his truck with 3M, and it seemed to hold good considering the size and weight of the parts. ou can get different sizes, maybe its just not big enough?

*&^%$#^$%^!! O^(! !! ! damn sideskirts!

I used the lepage 2x sided tape good for 11lbs. Pulled the paint on the driver side after sitting overnight. Got the car back from Carstar 3rd time and still have to go back.

Joe,

Could I heat up this FRP to better sit on the car? I'll post pics tonight. I'll take all the pcs off again and see if there it will cause any problems.

wow, how did shineauto even consider letting those leave the shop!?!? It looks to me like the mold is always going to be putting tention on like that. if they were more plyable like polyurathane, then i could see them flexing a bit more. But FRP wont flex that well.

U can heat poly, as i have done it to bumpers, but i dont think FRP can be heated.

Yeah.......heat won't work that well....you can give it a try and your best bet would be to heat it with a lamp when its on the car, and clamp/brace it into position and leave it braced until it cools.

Given where its pulling off of the car, Id see if you can get the bottom where it attaches on the rocker/pinchweld to come out more, allowing more slack for the top to be pressed against the side. Not sure how the shine ones are held on at the bottom, but if you could wallor out the holes down there, you might get enough give to pull the top edge against the body without as much tension.

As a very final last ditch resort...you could panel bond the skirts on. You'd have to get everything ready to clamp them inplace correctly first, then glue them up and let the bonder do its work. Chances are it would stick better, but the same rule applies that if there's tension pulling them apart, the panel bonding agent may just buy you more time - and good luck cleaning that crap off without grinding the paint off with it. So very - very - last resort.
