Importers in Ontario

I've decided to seriously look into importing a toyota hilux this spring and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good importer to get one through. Preferably one here in southern ontario that I can personally go and talk to them. Also if anyone has any tips and tricks for me on the subject of importing a vehicle that would be great!

You've been watching too much Top Gear.

Sorry, couldn't resist

Good luck though.

Yes that is true lol, but I've wanted a toyota truck since I was a kid and my uncle bought a brand new 4runner in 1992. It's just impossible to find a decent affordable one here and I'd really like a diesel version.

I've had good chats with the guys from Right Drive. Might be worth an email to them to assess the availability and market price of the Hilux. What model year are you looking for and will it be a diesel?

I'm no where close to the gta or any other city for that matter and I am absolutely clueless when it comes to importing vehicles. If anyone sees anything around let me know. Like I said I'll be looking in the spring. My legacy will get me through the winter. I know there are hilux's out there, but I'm pretty preticular about what I want.

I missed the last part of your post. Ideally I'd like to get one between 1996 and 1999 but price will really dictate what I can afford. I'd love to get a 5 speed manual diesel 4x4 either extended cab or full 4 door. I'd really love to get one like the Top Gear's acrtic truck but those are far too new to import here. On a side note, that's post #2000!!!

Why not a Landcruiser? Bullet proof diesel available, better towing capacity, etc.

I want a truck for hauling things around. My boss has a landcruiser and I'm not crazy about it. Too big and heavy in my opinion. The heaviest thing I haul around is my snowmobile. I can always borrow my friends dodge cummins if I need towing capacity.

Yeah, really. Insurance is really becoming a tough nut to crack in this province.

Every company is clamping down.

Also, RIV does not apply in this case. That is only for US imports newer than 15 years old.

Aren't Subie's pretty much interchangeable motor-wise? The suspension and other components for an 818 might assume an Impreza donor though.

I believe the 4 cylinders are pretty much unless physical size isn't available for whatever you are installing the engine in.

So it seems that importing a Hilux is going to cost more than I have in the budget... Although I've found tons of nice Hilux Surfs for sale in BC on kijiji at decent prices. Anyone have any experience importing vehicles in from BC?

Buggy, you're killing me. I started googling 'JDM import' and then filtered on 'Toyota Hilux'. Then I filtered on 'Mazda FD'. Now I want to buy a one way ticket to Vancouver and drive something home. Let me know if you want to do the same.

1. Have you contacted CloudPump about his experience with importing a car? Have you contacted Geoff about insurance?

2. Have you seen this ad? Import a JDM Toyota Hilux Pick Up SSR LN-100 2.8L Diesel - Mississauga / Peel Region Cars & Vehicles For Sale - Kijiji Mississauga / Peel Region Canada.
